Could a Bagpipe Have Metal Reeds??

Hello, I understand if this question seems laughable, but I've been wondering if a type of bagpipe could be designed to play with metal reeds, similar to accordion style reeds? We don't necessarily need to debate the potential design challenges, but I'm curious if the basic concept could even work -...

FS: Dixon Alloy High D Whistle

Hello! I'm selling a Dixon Alloy high D whistle that I just received yesterday and is in perfect condition. I'm finding that I like tapered-bore high whistles, and am just feeling like I have an abundance of high whistles at the moment, so just looking for a good home for this fine instrument! I've ...

FS: Feadog SHUSH Quiet Whistle SOLD

Hello! I'm selling a Feadog 'Shush' whistle that I just received not long ago from Big Whistle Music in the UK. For those not familiar, this is a 'tweaked' Feadog High D whistle in brass that has been modified to be quieter, while still retaining an excellent tone and responsiveness. It actually pla...

Hello! I'm selling a Feadog 'Shush' whistle that I just received last week from Big Whistle Music in the UK. Re: Least Chiffy D Whistle Recommendations?

I'm enjoying this conversation! I was definitely under the impression that chiff meant breathiness and scatchiness in addition to the whistle's underlying tone, however I totally respect that my terminology was flawed, as I only gleaned the term from reading other threads here and may have very well...

Re: Least Chiffy D Whistle Recommendations?

Although it's likely clear at this point, I indeed thought chiff was a word used to describe the breathy, airy, 'complex' tone some whistles have. While I know this could sound wonderful with the right whistle in the right context, my preference at this point is for a 'cleaner' sounding tone with as...

Re: Least Chiffy D Whistle Recommendations?

Thank you all for your responses - this forum is truly exceptional and I really appreciate feeling connected with so many other whistlers! After reading all the replies I had my 'finger on the trigger' to buy a DX006 from Amaxon this morning (specifically because Amazon offers a separate 4-year insu...

Least Chiffy D Whistle Recommendations?

Hello! I'm in the market for a new high D whistle and am seeking one with the clearest tone and least `chiff` possible. Ideally, it would be nickel (or aluminum or...) and not brass or plastic, and be under $100, but I'd be grateful for any first-hand experiences or recommendations for clear-toned h...

Re: FS: Burke Low F - Viper Pro Model

Price reduced to $180 + shipping!

Price is firm as I know this wonderful whistle is worth more, but I'll be happy to find a good home for it and hope it'll be played often!

I'm in the US, but happy to investigate international shipping if needed.

WTB: Low D Whistle for Sale?

Hello! I'm curious if anyone has a Low D whistle that may need a new home and is for sale? I am ideally looking for a tunable Low D with a metal mouthpiece (no plastic headed whistles, please) and this would be my first low whistle so I can't speak to preferred breathe requirements, but I play a D K...

Scottish Smallpipe Album Recommendations?

Hello! I wondered if anyone could recommend Scottish smallpipe artists or albums to check out? I really only have access to YouTube and Spotify, but I've been listening to Brigdhe Chaimbeul's incredible new album ('The Reeling') and some Hamish Moore - any other smallpipe specific albums out there? ...
