Re: Tube diameter affect on playing.
Hi, I've been trough exactly the same way that you have described in your post, and I too had some difficulties to adapt to the diameter of the killarney, especially for half-cover holes. I found it slippery too at the begining, but finally get used to the whistle, I think you will get used to it to...

Re: oiling frequency / dryness
I'm still curious why the flute dries out so quickly with the humidity around 50%, but I didn't study physics in college like my (meteorologist) dad would have had me do. I can't answer in a scientific way, but I once asked Solen Lesouef about humidity, and she told me that around 60% is nice, and ...

Re: flute stand for stage use with wooden flutes?
https://zupimages.net/up/19/40/rx95.jpg I use a bottles of wine box, painted black with a dowell on it. It works fine for me because I play string instruments too and I like to put my feet on it when I'm playing. I also use it to put cables and stuff in. You can add as much dowells as you need, but...

Re: Lip plate...does it really change the sound?
The Solen LeSouef flute on his site has a lip plate that surrounds what appears to be a completely round embouchure hole so that could definitely change the sound. in the Lesouef i owe, the plate does not surrounds totally the embouchoure, only the inner half or so, and the embouchure is not round ...

Re: Solen Lesouef flutes
Hi, I have a blackwood 6 keyed Lesouef flute, with one all-wooden head and one ivory/silver (I bought it second hand and it came with both heads). I love this flute, and I prefer the wooden head. Dunno exactly why but the sound is closer to what I think an irish flute is supposed to sound like (sorr...

Re: What tunes requiring keys are played at your local sessi
Hi, we play Mc Faddens handsome daughter and The Boys of Malin, both in Amaj I think, with G#s Yes. Both pretty easy though, especially The Boys of Malin. well I'm quite new to flute so there is nothing really easy for me :) those two & Frnak's reel are the only three we play and where I use a ...
