Re: An unexpected side effect of playing a Clarke original

In two, the rings are on a bias. And in the one with the best piece of wood, the rings are parallel to the windway, ironically all but guaranteeing the kinds of problem others have reported. To be honest I reckon they just use random bits of spare wood, shape em to fit and stick them in. What I wan...

Re: Flute Photos!!! Come post your flute pictures :)

but if you've got boehm flute playing down you'll likely be okay I'd think. That's the thing, I haven't. I just can't get the embouchure to work for me. You're supposed to blow downwards for the lower notes and make a sort of frown with a relaxed embouchure, with slow warm air, but I just can't get ...

Re: Flute Photos!!! Come post your flute pictures :)

Took delivery of my first flute this last week and have been working on making flute noises. Eventually I’d love to acquire a nice flute, but can’t beat the price especially finding it used. I was looking at getting one of those at some time in the future. How hard/easy is it to get the lowest note...

Well I'm told the wood is cedar, and cedar is used in recorder blocks
because of its resistance to swelling as well as its antiseptic properties. But also one is informed to only play a wooden recorder for a short period, especially when new.

Cheers Gumby. I find languages fascinating, even though my attempts to learn various languages always ultimately fail.

Re: Sail Og Rua

That's pretty cool. What does Sail Og Rua mean, and how is it pronounced?

An unexpected side effect of playing a Clarke original

Got one today, finally, and I love the soft, flute like tone. I only play indoors really so I like a quiet whistle (the kids shut their doors when I come upstairs to play!) But getting to the title of this thread refers to the wooden block of this whistle. Its not the feel of it, its the smell. Its ...

Big empty space at top of page

I've been away from the forum for a while and coming back I noticed there is a huge empty space at the top of the forum. Its more noticeable when Desktop site is unticked on my phone.
I'm just wondering what is missing?

I have one in low E, beautiful but quiet tone. Very meditative.

Re: Tenor recorders

I have a 211, I don't find the intonation dodgy at all. And because of the slanted holes its reasonably easy to reach.
