Re: New looking for guidance.

Sent you a pm but not sure you got it. You are close to a number of PA pipers, in Kutztown area, and Lewisburg area. We get together occasionally to try on a set of pipes, compare makers, swap tunes, and etc. All levels from experienced to complete novice. Contact me at javanfleet8@gmail.com and I w...

Angus B set safely received, excellent transaction, as painless as possible, and the pipes are a real treat!

Re: Tipping Your Pipemaker?

Do you mean "tipping " as in the ram/sheep context?
In Pennsylvania we tip cows.

Or perhaps the age-old tip: "Don't quit your day job."

Re: Emulating other pipers?

Is the piper you admire and wish to emulate still alive? Do they give lessons? Can't think of a better way to develop a specific style than personal tutelage! Do you want to sound like Seamus Ennis? David Power could help you get there. I suspect others on the Chiff board could give similar examples...

David Power taught us this one in a workshop once, if he is watching the forum, perhaps he could comment?

Re: First piping school: How much is too much

Hope you don't mind if I chime in. Take classes with two *different* pipers when you have the chance. You'll learn something different from each. If you can get a class with Benedict, he's an outstanding teacher.

Re: Bill Ochs RIP

Damn. My first piping instructor, I'll never forget those walks through Hell's Kitchen to his apartment, and "ringing the bell" by calling him from the corner pay phone! I have a box full of cassette recordings of our lessons, and Bill was constantly providing bootlegs of important pipers ...

Re: Willie Kelly and David Power Apples in Winter

David and Willie were in fine form at the Irish American Association Of North West Jersey, where they played on Saturday evening. David's Koehler and Quinn D set was humming. Very sweet-sounding, and able to match Willie's fiddle-playing so well, they sometimes sound like a single really wonderful i...

Pennsylvania piper needed!

Help needed in a hurry, I received an impassioned plea for an uilleann piper to play at a memorial service near Hellertown, PA. I don't think I can do it myself, I know of several PA pipers, but my contact information is all horribly out of date. Rodney Owens, Mark Stayton, Charlie Rutan, are you st...

Re: NEW RELEASE - the eighteen Moloney by David Power

File this under Spoiled Rotten. David Power is at Bucknell University today with Martin Hayes and the traveling troupe of the Masters of Tradition tour! Imagine being able to stroll from the Library over to the Weis Center concert hall (about a hundred yards) for a lunchtime workshop. The 18 inch is...

Re: 3D printed chanter?

Chanter hell, how about printed chanter reeds!? Or at least blanks with identical dimensions. If the Pakistanis can make reeds out of yogurt cups . . .
