Re: Micing Pipes for Recording

Once again, I want to thank everyone for their input. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of experience and willingness to share that experience from the folks on this forum to newbies (1.5 years playing), like me!

Thanks again!

Re: Micing Pipes for Recording

I just used a little Behringer condensor in this video - maybe a little lackluster and a bit too 'condensed' for my liking - I prefer the robust sound of the Leo Rowsome and Willie Clancy recordings - but you can see the mic position and that it picks up every note including Back D and the drones. ...

Re: How big is your repertoire?

About 6 songs, thanks to my instructor. :)

But I have only been playing a little over a year... give me time!

Now, if you count guitar, several hundred.

Re: Micing Pipes for Recording

Thanks! Ok, so looks like boundary mics rather then micing close with a large diaphragm or ribbon?

Darn. This means I have another excuse to go mic shopping.

Micing Pipes for Recording

Hey folks!

I have a small home recording studio here at the house, but my attempts to record my half set have been a little lackluster.

I am wondering what mics and micing positions you folks use for recording, either audio only or for youtube videos?

Thanks!

Re: Wedding/Funeral tunes?

I would imagine any air would work at a funeral. But here in the USA, Amazing Grace is almost a requirement for any piper at a funeral!

Re: Ebay Items

no but there are many curry houses in the area - Southall, just a few miles away is the home of Indian food I was first exposed to Indian food in the U.K. in the 1970's, and i will be forever grateful. The best Indian food I have ever had was in London: A place in Mayfair and another off of Piccadi...

Re: Drones lose Tuning

What I actually ended up doing is moving the bridles forward a hair on the bass and baritone drones (to sharpen them up), then lifted the tongues slightly. That made everything worse, so I immediately lost my nerve and put the bridles back to where they started from. I struck in and - voila! - the ...

Re: Drones lose Tuning

I also have a Lynch half set. I find that if I tune the drones with high pressure (but not so high to have the bass cut out of course!), they sound pretty spot on at both low and high pressure.

Not sure if you tried that yet, but thought it was worth a mention.

I am with Pwrt... finding someone to guide you is the best way to go!

Where are you located?

You may also find someone who does Skype lessons, too, which would be great!

Lends a certain je ne sais quoi to a piper's getup, to be sure.
Perfect!

I wonder if the Village People need a piper?

Apron/Popping Strap Traditional Material?

So, maybe I think to much... and a bit too anal retentive... but I am in need of replacing my current piping strap, and this ponderance came to my head. I wanted to get something traditional, and started looking at leather on line at places like Tandy, etc... but then I got to thinking: The predomin...
