Re: Anyone with contact info for Tilbury Woodwinds Co.?

@ytliek: Those are really nice. I love his whistles. I'm waiting for my order of an A and F, and can't wait.

@Technocelts: Will you be carrying the low whistles in some of those lines as well?

Re: WHOAD and Thumb Hole Blues

Hi David, yes, it's essentially recorder tuning, but with some odd fingering. It's a hybrid of whistle and recorder with the fingering, so I essentially have to figure some of it out. It's on his buying page at the very bottom "C Recorder Whistle NEW! £85.95" under Tuneable Alloy Whistles....

Re: WHOAD and Thumb Hole Blues

Other than the thumbhole, does it play really well? I actually have a Shearwater whistle recorder that has the thumbhole and the extra C hole for the right pinky. It doesn't quite play like a recorder because the Baroque fingerings don't work. I have to basically play around with the fingerings to g...

Re: Anyone with contact info for Tilbury Woodwinds Co.?

I tend to either email Chuck directly or go through his regular website here: http://whistlemaker.com I contacted him to finish getting the last two in the new range of alto whistles he's made. He doesn't have them listed on his site that I can see, but he started making Bb, A, G and F in a larger b...

Re: When to switch to clarinet?

I agree with dubrosa22 and say that, with such a huge difference in embouchure. I'm a recorder player who barely can play my chalumeau, and can't play my daughter's clarinet worth anything. If you want to start clarinet, you can get a decent student model, like a Yamaha YCL-20, which has some resale...

Re: Tenor recorder suggestions

Hi...have you tried breaking in your Moeck before playing long-term or the higher register, or tried de-clogging your windway? I just ask these first because some people don't, and I found that the proper care insures I get longer play on my instruments (also, I don't know how long you've been playi...

Re: How difficult is too difficult?

Hi Anastasia...definitely don't try vibrato yet! I didn't get that down until I was an adult, and only because I learned it for singing. But once you get better playing, you can start focusing on things like vibrato. However, for breathing, do figure out approximately how many measures you can get t...

Re: Where to find sheet music for treble recorder?

You probably want to learn how to read the sheet music with the proper fingering, and not simply play soprano/descant songs, but have it sound a 4th too low. Look for treble recorder or alto recorder free sheet music. There is a lot out there. You can also purchase books specifically geared towards ...

Re: How difficult is too difficult?

Thanks for understanding...I was waiting for an email and focusing on a layout while I was typing the first response. I see now that I was really not being clear. I don't normally write that badly. No more multi-tasking for me. I finally got a hold of my older daughter, who is away at college (she d...

Re: How difficult is too difficult?

@Peter Duggan: No, the diaphragm info was for Anastasia, the original poster, since it is not something that she may not have thought of. But my vocal teacher had mentioned that it is not necessarily natural for people to know how to do this. Seeing how people take breaths (watch for the lifting sho...

Re: How difficult is too difficult?

No, it's not. It just restricts your air intake. Actually, it doesn't. You are not blowing out through your nose, which makes no sense since you are using the intake air to blow out of your mouth to create sound. I probably should have specified, you do have to learn how to breathe through the nose...

Re: How difficult is too difficult?

Are you learning from a beginner book that starts you on one note, and builds from there with accompanying sheet music that progresses as you learn each note? When I learned a long time ago, my first year was spent on one beginner book that progressed one new note at a time, with songs that progress...

Re: Treble Trouble - newbie issues?

Nice...I haven't seen the polymer ones around locally. I got my chalumeau from the same store that I keep linking to for information: http://www.lazarsearlymusic.com/Pavel-Cip/PavelCip.htm#Chalumeaux I'm lucky to have a fairly local place to buy early music instruments. He has customers all over the...

Re: Treble Trouble - newbie issues?

Hi...if you have a wooden recorder, it will need a breaking in period. Either way, you can check here to take care of condensation issues: http://www.lazarsearlymusic.com/Recorder-Care/recorder_care.htm For plastic recorders, I don't tend to have as many problems, but I still have to fling out the m...

Vintage whistles found at an antique store

I found a couple of older Feadog brass D whistles and C whistle that is marked "Viceroy" at a local antique store that had quite a number of interesting gadgets (not the usual dishes, doilies and vintage clothes). The owner, I found out, is the sister of someone I knew a long time ago, so ...
