Re: Ebay luck and advice on cleaning wooden whistles
I would try (carefully applied) solvents and patience before polish. Some of them, like Simichrome, polish by abrasive action and would be fine for exterior surfaces, but could affect the fit of metal to metal in tuning slides.

Re: WhOAD and getting slagged by Dr SS
You're well beyond me. I suffer from Periodic Recurring WhOAD, but behavioral therapy helps; "Hi, my name is Richard, I play the Pennywhistle...". I'm generally happy with the 15 or so I have now; what haunts me are the ones I can know longer find: My first whistle, possessed of no name, m...

Re: Is Erle Bartlett still around?
I too bought a Syn set from the Irish Flute store in the late Fall (anybody know a good program for a WhOA sufferer?). Had to wait for a new shipment to arrive, so I assume he's still around. Lovely whistles, the C body is scarily responsive.

Re: Playing the whistle post surgery
Thanks to all of you, you have certainly helped my planning on this. I've done some experimentation and the key difficulty is support from under the lower half of the whistle. Getting a good seal on any of the holes depends on thumb support. My own current thinking revovles finding a way to support ...

Re: Playing the whistle post surgery
Thanks for the warning. I was unsure when I read that too. But I live alone and am thinking of a minimal level of practice at home, just to keep my hand(s) in. Placing the bell of the Kerry Optima on my knee seems to work without doing great violence to posture, and, in the unlikely event of a bump,...

Re: New insperation
My daughter has always more tolerated than approved of my musical tastes, though we did try to start her out right. She was taken to several Tannahill Weavers and Andy M. Stewart/Phil Cunningham shows as a babe in arms (the Tannie's sound man thoughtfully provided ear plugs for her). She did go to s...

Re: Playing the whistle post surgery
Based on the first surgery, they encourage wiggling the fingers, but no load bearing to speak of. The hand itself does a pretty good job of leetting. you know what you can and can't do. I will check it out when i set the surgery up with the doc.

Re: Playing the whistle post surgery
Thank you. I've had a few ideas of my own, but felt sure that someone else must have already invented this particular wheel. The cocobolo is incredible, and, with just a few minutes for the first playing-in session, the whistle is incredible. As to taking care, I feel like I have a new baby in the h...

Playing the whistle post surgery
I am new to Chiff and Fipple, though I knew it in its younger days, when Dale had first ascended the throne. I had hand surgery last spring to repair arthritis damage to my left thumb, after 3 months of convalescence I was able to hold, and play, a whistle for the first time in years. It comes back ...

You might want to check with Kerry. Vaseline can react badly with latex or rubber. Silicone based lubricants may be safer.
