WTB: Thin Weasel

It's almost my wife's birthday and I would like to buy her a Glenn Schultz Thin Weasel as a present, preferably in D. Is there someone out there who would be willing to sell me one? I would be grateful. btw, I live in Belgium.

Thank you and kind regards,
Peter

Re: Hakam Din Flutes

I have a Bernolin and it's a good flute. I would stay away from Pakistani flutes. If you want an ok wooden baroque flute for an ok price, you might want to contact Luc Verhoeven in Belgium.

Re: Does your dog howl when you play the flute?

Our animals (1 dog, 7 cats, 3 parrots) never seem to mind us playing instruments at home. There are two execeptions, however: The parrots love the sound of a guitar or a bouzouki (they start dancing) and the dog hates the sound of the nyckelharpa ands starts whining :)

Re: Please help me with baroque flute embouchure.

I'd say the two major attention points are: more focus and relaxed lips. Quantz is indeed a good starting point.

Re: English or French? R&R or Pratten?

Okay, I'll give it a try too, with the extra handicap of not being a native speaker :) I agree with Jim about the robust sound of the Boosey, but I prefer the less powerfull, more balanced and agile sound of the R&R. And I absolutely love the delicate high notes and transparancy of the French fl...

Re: English or French? R&R or Pratten?

Hi Jem,

The mazurka sounds like it was composed for the French flute. I like the sound of the R&R, but in my opinion the composition favours #3

Re: Dixon keyless flute (& piccolo)

I have both (my first flutes ever)... The fife (plastic, not tuneable) is ok, intonation not to bad etc. In my opinion the aluminum flute is a complete disaster in the field of intonation. But maybe a better flautist than me would be able to make it play in tune :) I would rather spend money on a mo...

Re: Rest in Peace Claire Soubeyran

I was going to visit Claire next summer (I wanted to order a baroque flute from her). A major loss and a sad day, indeed...

Re: RTTA for Android

Hi Terry and Gem,

I haven't installed the app yet, but plan to do so in the near future.
Being one of the baroque people (not a specialist, but a rather new student): 1/4 Meantone would be nice to have in the field of temperaments :)

Kind regards,
Peter

Re: Anybody heard of these Ricard Vallina flutes

Hi there,

The video you link to is about a Doug Tipple flute, so it's not a Vallina flute. There are some clips on the website, though :)

I try Irish and Breton trad and O'Carolan playing the flute with my girlfriend, baroque at school (traverso), 90s punk rock, grunge and blues on guitar :D
