Those are definitely cracks. You can see the wood in the detail photos. Too bad as they look pretty nasty.
Edit: I had a closer look and it does look to be unfortunate lighting. Not sure why they're reflecting that yellow - brown.

Re: Listening to Flute Recordings
I like listening to solo anything. As an old time fiddler (yeah... I know) I always prefer a lone fiddle to one with accompaniment, and if it must be accompanied then guitar is better than banjo (I could be in hot water for even admitting that). Same with the flute really but for learning tunes, I'l...

Re: Old Time Irish flute
I play OT fiddle and occasionally whip out an old time tune on my flute (Whiskey Before Breakfast was the first). I've never considered it in a group setting but that is probably because it is so much fun playing fiddle with other fiddlers. I've researched many old time tunes and their origins, neve...

Re: June McCormack, flute player
Geez, I just watched the one of Mr McGowan and there is another nasty post "Jem you are a bollox ... If you came into MY ireland you would be met with the contents of a 12 bore shot gun" What the duck!? I'm at a loss... Who says such things? I'm sorry you have to put up with such BS from s...

Re: What is 'good' tone?
In my first post on this topic, I did refer to recordings of myself that best exemplify what I think is good tone: "Two clips from my link in my signature exemplify this concept of tone (which I am still working on and devloping): Brenda Stubbard's and Steely's Cut." Go to "Fluting S...

Re: What is 'good' tone?
So all of the written descriptions are just long winded ways of saying 'listen to (insert player)'? And it doesn't matter as long as you get the correct feel (learned by listening a lot or from a teacher)? I get the feeling one can do it wrong and sound like a boeme player, which is 'bad'. I was hop...

What is 'good' tone?
There is much WRITTEN about how to produce the kind of tone desired when playing Irish music but very little actual recorded comparisons or demos showing the difference between good tone and bad tone, or tone that is undesirable for Irish tunes. Can someone make such a demo? I know what a weak flopp...

Stolen: Somers Delrin Pratten from mail in New Hampshire
I have been waiting for 12 days for a flute mailed 2 day express from Massechusetts. It was scanned in at Nashua, NH and sat there until yesterday when it was checked in at my post office. The package (a tube) was clearly opened and taped back up leaving one end only covered by the clear tape they u...

Re: Flute to get started with
For the record, the inside of a car gets MUCH hotter than your living quarters probably ever will. Upwards of 130+ Fahrenheit depending on how long it's in the sun and the outside temp.
