Re: My, How Time Flies

Welcome back ! Do you still play ? My own playing was daily for about 10 years. Lately, only here + there. Sigh . . . Oh yes! Was at a session just tonight. Played Uilleann Pipes, Whistle, Low Whistle, and Bodhran. Always fun! I also play guitar and sing at church every week. I've gotten a lot more...

Re: Need help identifying some Low Whistles....

Thank you all for having a look and offering your insight with these. At this point I'm kinda thinking these are both early Kerry whistles from the era just after Bernard stopped making whistles and Colin and Phil were duking it out for whistle maker world domination. The tell on the all metal C whi...

Re: Need help identifying some Low Whistles....

You know, maybe... The Black head could be an early Kerry with that K and all. I didn't think he worked with plastic heads until much more recently. The C whistle, as I previously stated, is devoid of maker's marks, so I can't confirm this is a Goldie or Overton, or what have you. Part of the reason...

Thoughts on A Whistles...

Hello All! It's been a while. :o I've come seeking the collective smarts of the whistle community. For the longest time I have been using a Susato medium bore A for my A whistle needs, but want to upgrade. I'm looking for something with nicer tone and tuning as well as better control between octaves...

Re: Can someone recommend an Eb whistle?

Be sure to check out the Dixon trad whistles too. When i got mine they were about $30-US. Good volume, articulation, and none of the intonation problems of his standard D whistles.

Re: Do I need more than a D whistle for playing sessions?

I agree that D and C are really going to cover most of what is out there. I hit sessions every now and again that have a preponderance of fiddle players and they tend to dominate many of the sets that are played. As such I find some good mileage in an A whistle. This will allow you to play in D (as ...

Re: Generation whistle in B ??

I haven't seen a B generation only Bb. Doesn't mean they don't make one, but I have never seen one.
Susato makes whistles in every key if you are looking for an option for under $100. Might check them out.

Re: Beginner Low Whistle Questions

The first thing I'd check is that you are getting a complete seal on the low d and e. If you are absolutely sure that the holes are completely covered, then it is the way the whistle is voiced. The ethnic winds whistle you are using claims hand built quality so there is going to be some variance fro...

Re: Seeking advice.

Congratulations on the progress so far! Taking up an instrument at any age can be a highly rewarding pursuit. The whistle is a very simple instrument to make a sound on, and a very complicated instrument to master. I agree with both the other posts that playing with others is going to be your next s...
