Re: Olwell Keyless Boxwood Bb.

Yeah, he said that normally his wait list was a year for keyless but that right now it is closer to 8 months. Which suits me fine. Also got on his keyed flute list I figure that in 6-10 years I will be ready for it.

Re: Olwell Keyless Boxwood Bb.

Curious to see what it goes for. I'm currently on the list for an Olwell keyless and he quoted me 8 months wait, which is really not bad.

Re: Will the real Kerry please stand up?

People talk about tune names before they play them? Quite right. People talk about tune names after they play them. To (roughly) quote Ciaran Carson in Last Night's Fun: "What was that one called?" "Ask my father." My favorite tune typo has to be The Grease in the Bog on some do...

FS: Tipple D flute $80 SOLD

I have a Tipple D for sale. It has a lip plate and the wedge in the head. Nice player.

I'm selling because now that I have a conical bore, the tipple just doesn't get touched.

Its $80 shipped in the continental US.

Thanks!

Re: Looking to upgrade

The only one of the whistles you listed that I own is the impempe. Its a powerful whistle but has a great sound, especially in the lower octave. Its a wide bore and has a pretty sizable breath requirement, especially in the upper octave. I would describe the sound as edgy and powerful, it is quite p...

Re: What is 'good' tone?

Good tone is just that, tone that sounds good. It goes through fads what people find best for a particular genre but it is hard to go wrong with making a nice sound. To sound idiomatic it is far more important to play rhythmically and with the correct technique than with a particular sort of tone. T...

Re: Ebay Items

Knew those wouldn't fly under the radar. If people don't bid it up too high someone might get a deal on something that could be fixed up to be quite nice. Bidding on them myself but I probably don't have what they will go for.

Re: It made me go hmmmmmm...

It's interesting to see this. I haven't played enough simple system flutes to know the difference but it makes some sense from my orchestral flute background. The better flutes there are both harder and easier. On a modern flute a good instrument has an easier key mechanism which plays with less eff...

Re: Does anyone recognise this chanter?

I have a daye chanter. Not only is it a good starting point, it's a great chanter. If they weren't cheap, I think they would be very well thought of.

Re: Does anyone recognise this chanter?

yeah I don't disagree but I'm not really talking about amazing instruments here. serviceable ones would do.
