It sounds promising, but pretty hard to tell from just the sheet music and automatically generated MIDI.

Re: Has Chiff and Fipple become a SH whistles Sales site?

I'm all for the UIE and if replies could be made there the whistle, flute, pipes forums would have much less baggage. Perhaps another forum with less strict rules could be added. People are already taking the trouble to post in two places, they could post in UIE and Second Hand Instruments Discussi...

Re: Introduction and question about learning songs

I started learning to play the whistle about a year ago, purely by bashing my head against the tunes I really liked and trying to play them. I'd say what learning method is most effective depends on one's personality. There's no way I would have stuck with it doing boring (to me) stuff like drills o...

Re: Bass whistle mania?

The whistles Bingamon and Hans were talking about don't have keys. They're just bass whistles. I think ScottMaurer was talking about even lower whistles — so low that actually reaching/covering holes with one's hands would be impossible. Correct. Hans bass whistle has no keys. However did you miss ...

Re: Bass whistle mania?

That would likely be a very expensive instrument but being a modern flute player, I would love to see that as well. It would not be as simple though. Keys require pads which require replacement. If you aren't casting your own tubes, the labor involved is intense as you can't just drill holes and us...

Re: Bass whistle mania?

Thanks for reducing the picture size-makes it much easier to view, and it looks more normal as it would appear to the eye. Even so, some are still magnifying the whistle a lot, that makes the appearance rougher than it really is. No problem. I wanted to show the detail, but you're right it does mak...

A waltz. Anyone know the name?
It's The Cradling Arms Of Croaghan composed by Des Cafferkey: https://thesession.org/tunes/13078
On my list of tunes to learn. It's quite nice.

Re: Whistle emergency

My Dixon Trad in brass developed a leak between the tube and the mouthpiece somehow. The mouthpiece comes off now and doesn't seal quite right. I have a lesson an a few hours and I need this to be working! Help! How about tape? You can put some tape on the inside to make it a more snug fit. You can...

Re: Sore throat after practising the low whistle

I haven't had that problem personally but I don't think you're the first person I've heard mention it. Not sure what the cause is. Perhaps you aren't swallowing very frequently when you play? Try taking a sip of water every couple minutes. You could also try taking a little break every 5 minutes or ...

Re: Bass whistle mania?

it weighs quite a bit! Holding it out means the weight rests on my thumbs rather than trying to hold it up as it tries to fall straight down. Search the forum archives for low whistle strap. Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping that I can just get used to playing it — my daily practice seems to be pay...

Re: Bass whistle mania?

Yeah wow, big whistle, and even bigger pictures! I think you need to resize some of them for forum use-they are gigantic. A fair point. I was pretty lazy yesterday. I've scaled them down some today and edited my post. Your Shearwater is a very good value, that's for sure. But that angle of y...

Re: Bass whistle mania?

How hard is it to blow? Not bad, really. I'd say it uses more air than my low D but not double or anything. Possible 30%-50% more (may be wildly inaccurate, I'm pretty bad at estimating that sort of stuff). It's fairly quiet compared to the low D. Holding it up and covering the holes is the part I ...

Bass whistle mania?

Okay, maybe not mania. Interest, perhaps? It doesn't seem like many people play them. A while back a got a Shearwater bass A non-tuneable alloy whistle. I can't really give it a proper review since I've only been playing whistles from last September. Nor can I properly play it (or any whistle, reall...
