Good point. I have tried an Oak mouthpiece on a Generation Eb tube, and it works quite well. I would like to increase the tuning range by making it sharper. Do I still need to shorten both ends?

Making a D whistle into an Eb whistle
If I wanted to make a D whistle into an Eb whistle, would it be enough to simply shorten the tube from the mouthpiece end, or would I need to do more than that?

Re: Tweaking a whistle with a dirty/harsh sound
In response to Turnborough’s question, the Oak had a relatively thin bit of daylight, followed by the Feadog and lastly the Waltons, which showed the most light.

Re: Tweaking a whistle with a dirty/harsh sound
I also have a Generation Eb whistle that sounds very rough. I tried substituting different whistle heads. I know this isn't a novel approach, but I came up with a really nice Eb whistle. I tried a whistle head from a Waltons Little Black whistle. Better, but still kind of rough. Next I tried a whist...

Re: Teaching whistle instead of recorder-public school?
I'm a retired elementary music teacher and I taught whistle to my elementary students. The late Bill Ochs was a great proponent of teaching the whistle in schools and even had a website dedicated to that purpose. It still exists here: https://pennywhistlesforschools.com/ He was very supportive of my...

Burke wide bore aluminum D
I am trying to find out more information about the Burke wide bore aluminum D whistle. I tried emailing Michael several days ago but haven't gotten a response. Is it wider than the aluminum session D? The website says it is essentially the same as the brass session D but made out of aluminum. That s...

I’ve found that a pair of tweezers works well. Any residual that you can’t get out can be removed with a wooden toothpick.

Shaw whistle alignment
I have a Shaw D whistle. The bottom three holes are twisted to the right so they are not in line with the top three holes. Has anyone else seen this on a Shaw whistle? It is not so bad that the whistle is unplayable, but it is visually noticable.

Susato VSB D Question
I have an older vsb d whistle purchased a number of years ago, like around 15 years ago. Anyway, I recently purchased an Eb tube for it, which works fine, but a number of the finger holes are substantially larger, particularly the bottom two. I'm curious if the more recent d versions are the same. C...

Re: What's with Eb whistles?
[quote="tstermitz"] Maybe I should rephrase the question: "Why do you have an Eb whistle?" Because I really like Eb whistles. I like the way they play, and I like the way they sound. They tend to be bright and responsive. I love my Killarney Eb, and my Dixon Trad Eb. I wish Clark...

Re: Shaw vs Clarke (?)
The Shaw is made of nickel silver. There is no ridge down the back where the rolled sheet metal is soldered. The Clarke is made of tin, has a ridge down the back where the original sheet metal is soldered and is the original tin whistle dating back to 1843. Clarke has a neat website, with lots of in...
