Re: information needed on B and Bb whistles

Bb is an absolutely delightful pitch. It limits your ability to play with others. The finger stretch is not bad but for the smallest hands. I play a Sindt, but the Generation whistles are fine for a low price.

Re: Seeking Flute teacher in Montreal, Canada

There is a fine flute player named Brady Hurley living in Montreal. He is a fine teacher as well. I don't know if he is taking students but you could try him.

Air Leak from my Killarney Whistle

I have two Killarney whistles, one nickel and one brass. I play the brass body whistle mostly because I prefer the slightly warmer tone. Over the last several days, I have noticed a slight leak of condensation from the head/body joint and today I have had an air leak, which ruins playing. Do you hav...

Re: How to clean out, swab out whistle?

I mostly play a Killarney whistle and every few weeks I take it apart and let it sit in dish soap overnight per the maker's instruction. I then clean the windway with a very soft, small plastic dental "go-between." There is a build-up that occurs and the whistle plays better when clean. I ...

Re: Hello....I'm new.

Welcome! I was exactly where you are now about 15 months ago. That was two Irish flutes and about 7 whistles ago. I take Skype lessons and went to Conal O Grada and Hammy Hamilton's Flute Meeting in Ireland in March. If you would like to compare notes, shoot me a message. I'm also 57 and had no musi...

What key should my whistle be?

Very much a beginner here - I've been at it for a little over a year. I had no musical background and came to music through the whistle at age 55. I now play Irish flute and whistle for an hour or two a day and the joy it brings me is mammoth. I have a few D whistles and always play my Killarney. I ...

Re: For me, flute and whistle don't mix

I am a beginner flute (Burns) and whistle (Killarney) player in middle age, and have been at it for almost a year. I am so green that I enjoy playing both, and find that sometimes I can solve things on the whistle that I can transfer to the flute. I see them as complementary at this early stage in m...

Central Florida Flute Playing Partner

I've been learning the Irish flute for about nine months, and have a great Skype instructor. However, I am at the point where I would love someone to play with. If you are within a 30 minute drive of Winter Park, play well, and have an interest, let me know and we can talk about compensation, etc.

Re: Massive wrist pain, help!

Beginner flute player here, but a physician - take the advice for what it is worth. Your grip should not pinch the flute as yours appears to be doing. Rather, and according to Rockstro, the palmar aspect of your first knuckle should push the flute into place against your lower lip. There should be n...
