Re: Please help me with baroque flute embouchure.

This is quite a good book with both modern and classic texts for the Baroque or Classical flute: https://www.amazon.com/Method-One-Keyed-Janice-Dockendorff-Boland/dp/0520214471 "This is the best introduction to the one-key (baroque) flute for Boehm system flute players available today. With her...

Re: erik the flutemaker's wooden whistles

I had a Cocobolo whistle in D from Erik and it was a very mellow, rich-toned instrument. The fipple is a Susato so it is very good quality. Maintenance is only a little almond oil on the wood every 6 months or so. I think the value is there price-wise. The only reason I sold it it was because of the...

Re: Flute making Apprentices

Thanks Paddler on your thoughts and experience. I'm dabbling in flute-making myself over the past year or so, and yes, the specialised self-made tools are the hardest bit really. And throwing away wrecked attempts. I can honestly say I've only made 4 or 5 'good' flutes out of a dozen or more attempt...

Re: Thread or cork?

The turned grooves on the tenons don't necessarily indicate that thread was solely intended by its maker (although given the age of your flute it most likely was). Still to this day most, if not all, clarinets are cork-lapped at their tenons but the same grooves are always present. Many modern wood ...

I've found http://instrumentclinicusa.com/ a great resource - they post cheaply Internatially.
I used to use MusicMedic but there shipping costs have skyrocketed recently

Re: Need info about Mollenhauer and Moeck Recorders

I thought the Moeck's brass ferrules looked too beveled and narrow to be a Tuju, plus the mouthpiece/beak I thought looked a little too streamlined for a Tuju.

But it probably is an older Tuju if folks here are in agreement.

Re: Need info about Mollenhauer and Moeck Recorders

They are both Alto (aka Treble) recorders with Baroque fingering. The Moeck looks to be in Maple. The Mollenhauer is probably Pearwood or Cherry. Both are models no longer produced by the makers. The Moeck model looks be like their School or something like their current Flauto Rondo model (beginner ...

Re: Cheap non-Pakistani flutes on ebay

Are these flutes two pieces routed out and then glued together NAF style?
I don't hold much hope for them not splitting down the middle if they get played much considering the wood type used.
