Re: Who makes a great Low F whistle?
My hobby is making Irish whistles (when I get the time) ....I have a low F ...nicest sounding whistle I've made, I think, and totally playable without needing the pipers grip.
Don't know if that's any help ?

Lyrics and Chords to "Sammys bar" ?
Hi, I wondered if anyone has the lyrics with chords (preferably in C) of the old folk tune "Sammys bar" by Cyril Tawney.
Thanks,
John.
Thanks,

Re: Problem with C Whistle
Hi, if you would like to play C natural on a C whistle the fingering is OXXXXX . I think I had this conversation the other day ...I said as long as your piece of music is always written (or transposed into) the key of D or G the fingering will always be the same ....then its just a matter of changin...

Hi, my hobby is making Irish whistles (when I get the time) ...but I don't think you said what tuning of the whistle you where wanting. I don't do any with comfort keys ...but I always try to keep the holes as near as practically possible for ease of playability. The approx dimensions of my low D ar...

Re: Key Confusion
I'm always learning ....but I always transpose the written music into the key of D or G then just pick the whistle you wish the music to come out in. For example I was given a tune written in C to play in our band so I transposed it into D and played it on a C whistle ...the key of C like the rest ...

Re: Low g whistle for small hands
Hi ...I have a low G whistle with each top three and bottom three hole spreads of around 53 mm.
I manage to play all my whistles without needing to use the "pipers grip" ...(including the low D) if that's any help to you.

Re: Tuning of the Octaves
Hi, I have noticed when I make whistles that the second octave will be always slightly "flatter" than the lower octave ...I believe Guido Gonzato mentions this too. The difference is fairly insignificant, the layman wouldn't notice it and this can be compensated by blowing a little harder ...

Re: Beginner with Whistle questions...
Hi, I don,t think the whistle (or fipple) material has much bearing on the tone of the whistle ...I think its more to do with the way the whistle is made or set up (the wind way etc) that produces the tone or sound. If I get some spare time I make whistles and have found really that the material is ...

Re: High pitch fingering in low whistle
Hi, my hobby is making whistles (http://www.redheadwhistles.com) and the best fingering I always use is oxxxxx ...on any whistle in fact when playing the upper octaves.
I have an "F" ...nice mellow tone ....hope that helps.
