Re: The Mayflower Club, North Hollywood, California, USA
First I've heard of it, though that doesn't mean nothing is happening. The main sesssion in (greater) LA is at the Auld Dubliner in Long Beach, Sundays, 4-7pm. You're welcome to join us!

Re: USA Flute Restoration
Why not send it back to Tom? He turned around a flute pretty quickly for me recently. Postage was more but not terrible.

Re: Shipping to Europe
I ended up using FedEx. Cost a fortune. Promised delivery in 4 days but it was a week longer than that thanks to customs, and thanks, I suspect, to FedEx's incompetence. Local FedEx seemed to have no clue about what the flute would face at the other end. I have a FedEx account number but they didn't...

Re: Self made cork bumper for a key?
Below are some instructions Jem Hammond kindly provided to me a while back, I don't think he'd mind my sharing. Tim Here's how I renew them: 1) use a jeweller's screwdriver blade about the same width as the stud diameter to remove the old cork - just twizzle it with light pressure and clean out the ...

Re: any recommendations for flute lessons via skype?
I can recommend Ben Power very highly. I have not had Skype lessons with him but those of the in-person sort. He's a great teacher.

I second the above recommendation of a Dave Copley flute. Great flute for a great price.

Re: How wise is it to leave a flute fully assembled.
Yes, I wouldn't keep it assembled. This can be a pain if you have couple spare minutes and want to play. I finally bought an ebonite flute (without cork tenons), partly for travel, mainly to keep assembled at my desk so I can pick it up and play whenever I want.

Re: How wise is it to leave a flute fully assembled.
A flutemaker told me once not to leave my (wood) flute assembled, as this compresses the cork over time and the seal deteriorates.

Re: Matt Molloy fast switch between b-d-a-d
Yes, practice will get you there. That bit is like a tongue twister, but for your fingers.
A classical technique I was taught for difficult passages is to play them slowly in a dotted eighth - sixteenth pattern, then sixteenth - dotted eighth. Over and over. It works.
Good luck!
