Re: 3d printed small/parlour pipes w/ 2 octave chanter

That's on the list, definitely! I've been working on it.

Today I was trying "The Auld Wheel" by Scott Skinner - those low D's really stand out!

Any more requests?

Re: A 3D printed 'D' whistle

This is getting interesting! I should also point out that I'm very fond of a good handmade whistle, and play a set by Patrick O'Riordan myself. Of course a craftsman made instrument can be appreciated as a thing in its own right, as well as for the music it makes. To see something made with hands br...

Re: 3d printed small/parlour pipes w/ 2 octave chanter

That's right! My feeling is, and I don't know if pipers would generally agree with this, is that, as ingenious as Henry Starck's work undoubtedly was, the failure of the Brian Boru to gain widespread acceptance amongst pipers was at least partly due to the design having disturbed the arrangement of ...

Re: A 3D printed 'D' whistle

And by the way, if anyone wants a copy of the current whistle drawings, just ask! They're in .dwg format, for AutoCAD. There's several stages included, so you'll see how I built the model and should be able to tweak it to your hearts content. Remember it's currently a bit flat up-top! Not selling - ...

Re: 3d printed small/parlour pipes w/ 2 octave chanter

@pancelticpiper Absolutely right! And yet… it doesn't use keys, and plays from D below the stave, up through the existing pipe scale (unchanged), to a high 'b'. If that's kittling your brain-box, don't worry! I'm going to post videos shortly on the Kickstarter page that show the chanter playing with...

Re: A 3D printed 'D' whistle

Cayden - you've raised an interesting point I think. (and by the way, thanks for your kind comments!) What makes a great whistle I think, or any instrument, is the knowledge applied to it by the maker or designer, and in the case of brass (and 3D printed?) whistles, by the player who works on it. So...

Yep, flat

Thanks guys - it's an interesting technology. Obviously it has wide implications. I find it exciting for the way in which it makes it possible to create objects that might otherwise be impossible, or just very difficult - I've been using this to print new kinds of Smallpipe chanters, but have yet to...

Two octaves

I should add - the pipe is capable of more than two octaves, although I only really regard this as a useful range on the "D" chanter variant, which has an incredible range from low G up to high 'b' that isn't yet completely tamed!

Re: 3d printed small/parlour pipes w/ 2 octave chanter

Hi folks, glad you found this interesting! I'm aware of Calum Armstrong's experiments with Julian Goodacre's chanters. This design has been a bit more of a 'slow burner', I've been working on it for I suppose about 15 years, ever since I remember first musing over the possibilities of the "8 fi...

A 3D printed 'D' whistle

Hello all! I've got two videos to share with you : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhkOixsuS-g "Rare Willie", and : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI0U3YAZjvA "The Tailor's Wedding" Both are played on a freshly printed 'D' whistle that I've been working on in AutoCAD Comments on...
