Online Music Store
Hello, I used to get a fair amount of music on CD baby (mp3 version), I really liked the fact that they had a "new section" of Irish trad and the fact that you could listen to a bit of the music which was very useful for me in order not to get an album where I liked only one tune. This sto...

Re: Chris Wilkes's new website
I'm trying to figure out that roller on the boxwood flute. Is it going through to lift the extension on the long F? Well from the man himself, it is a mechanism that lets you play an F natural by simply straightening your right ring finger, and I quote "an automatic F natural devise" . Ne...

Re: Morvan or Lesouef flutes - your experience?
I have played several of both makers 's flutes and I have liked all of Lesouef's flutes, definitely not the case for Morvan's flutes. Lesouef is definitely on the up side and I believe her flutes will become more valuable as time goes by. In other word grab them when the wait is not too long....

Re: Advise on Border pipes maker in Europe
Thank you. Correct me if I am wrong but Hamish Moore has retired and it is now his son Fin who makes them. Are they as good as before?

Re: Embouchure hole, tuning or sound?
You can do the following experiment while you play, with your chin push the flute out and the pitch goes up, pull the flute in and the pitch goes down. This is what most players do to be in tune. So no matter how the flute was originally tuned to, you will need to adjust the pitch in respect to the ...

Re: The Next Great Flute Maker?
What makes a great flute is highly objective and personal, but, I always advise a buyer to get an instrument he won't loose money on, i.e sell at least at the price you bought it. I am sure it does not mean that you'll get a great flute, but at least if you do not like it, you will not loose any thi...

Re: Does your dog howl when you play the flute?
My dog does not seem to mind the flute, it sits on my lap as I play and it even comes up my lap as I do. But, if I play the pipes, especially the great highland bagpipes, then the dog turns in to the hound of hell and it attacks me, biting my legs and going sh*t...

Re: Oiling the bore of an African Blackwood flute
Sam Murray recommended linseed oil, a bit to my surprise. But only very occasionally and when it was really needed. Other makers always recommended almond oil to me. Be very careful with linseed oil, avoid the blow hole, for linseed oil accumulates and will change the geometry of the hole. I use li...
