Re: Newbie starting out...got me a German 19thc flute...help?

Dear oh dear.

Do I detect trolls in the area?

You are obviously coming to this from a different standpoint from myself.

...but I'm not interested in having a pointless argument.

See ya!

Re: Newbie starting out...got me a German 19thc flute...help?

Oh...and by the way... As a new flute player, I may not know that much about flutes... But as an antique dealer, what I DO know about, is the difference in tensile strength between nickel and solid silver. As a comparison, the nickel will be much stronger than silver (which is a relatively SOFT meta...

Re: Newbie starting out...got me a German 19thc flute...help?

All the trill (and other) keys work fine, and the only reason I cannot get the lowest two notes is my own inability to get my controlled breathing that low. As for removing the keys...DEFINITELY NOT! I am a professional antiques dealer, and have been so for over 30 years. I mainly deal in antique mu...

Re: Newbie starting out...got me a German 19thc flute...help?

I'll just keep at it for the moment. I really like this weird old flute though...and it endears itself to me. I can't get the very lowest C and B notes on it though...my controlled breathing isn't good enough yet. If my fingering doesn't work with it, ultimately...I may go back to a Boehm flute or g...

Re: Newbie starting out...got me a German 19thc flute...help?

Thanks Eric. I don't have meat cleaver hands either, and the only way I can get to cover all the notes with my right hand, is to try a half-cocked pipers grip where the flesh of my middle-pads on my fingers are covering the holes. The slightly-bent method you describe won't cover them all properly. ...

Re: Newbie starting out...got me a German 19thc flute...help?

One of the things I am struggling with with this flute is the stretch for my fingers to the low D and the low keys whilst trying to cover the other keys and keep them airtight. I have what is called "Swan-neck" double-joints in my fingers, and this means that I cannot keep them absolutely ...

Gibson fretboard cleaner?..Can I use it to oil my flute?

I have half a bottle of Gibson fretboard cleaner in my shed. It looks clear and oily and it for reconditioning guitar fretboard's of rosewood or ebony. It says..."prevents cracks and reconditions dry fretboards" Could I use it to oil the internal barrel of my flute? It must be good stuff.....

Re: Newbie starting out...got me a German 19thc flute...help?

I don't have a FB page or a webpage, so I'm not sure how I will post pictures. I currently have them just sitting on my pictures file on my computer. Ive also looked into those webpages you suggested and they seem to imply that the area you mentioned, which is now in the Czech republic, WAS a big ar...
