Re: Super newbie question
What's trick to getting high 2nd octave tones out of a whistle. I have a Clarke D, and now a Freeman Mellow Dog in D, and I can get the lower half of the 2nd octave, but it fizzles out around the high B or A. Even the next note down requires some really hard blowing, and the resulting tone sends my...

Re: C Natural Blues
I'm only a couple of weeks into my whistle adventure... -Do you memorize a specific c nat. fingering for each, and if so how do you stay on track? -Is half holing a better option of I end up remaining a whistle slut? -Finally, a thumb hole would seem to be a great way for each manufacturer to addre...

Re: Roy McManus: master craftsman and gentleman
If you don't already have a McManus whistle in your collection, I would sincerely recommend that you consider obtaining one while they are available and affordable. His email address is whistles@roymcmanus.co.uk and he is easy to deal with and quick to respond. Seeing how this is commercial post, c...

Re: Got a Jerry Freeman Tweaked Generation in A
I have a Freeman Tweaked Generation Bb and the Low A. I find they both are almost identical in play ability.. Exception of course for the c nat which is normally oxxooo. On the low A it is oxxxxo unless you half hole... I really like the set. If think if you like playing a basic Generation Bb I thin...

Re: Oh, crap, crap, crap!
Some of my whistles didn't make it back, and I'm squealing and squawking like a demented loon! My Mack Hoover narrow bore is all messed up, the fipple is bent and the delrin is shoved under the sound hole. The fipple on my O'Brien is cracked...the Overton made it OK, takes a lot of breath I don't h...

Re: Germs?
Perhaps a silly question...what do you do, if anything, to prevent swapping germs when using a tin whistle that was previously owned by someone else? I was surprised/intrigued to read on another post that there is actually an active market for second hand tin whistles. I have pondered the exact sam...

Re: Playing the whistle post surgery
Does anyone have experience with some sort of rig which would allow for a one handed hold on the whistle, large or small? Thanks r The only thing I've heard of remotely similar to what you looking for is a Harmonica Holder. I'm sure you've seen folk musicians use these holders to play the guitar an...

Re: Buying new whistle
Okay, one more whistles into the decision. Has anyone ever heard of the Syn (not snit whistle) and your feelings on that one. A little more expensive but like I said, I want it to be a whistle to grow with. Cheers, Gary I purchased a Syn A & Bb set awhile back.. Did not find them to be a good m...

Re: Need a laugh?
But, it is funny. Is it? :-? Did you catch this? I just discovered this!! Be warned, it is a whole lotta stupid. Should have been a red flag for ya if you have high comedy standards. Me, well I'm fairly liberal when it comes to finding a reason to laugh. I couldn't help think of all the times I've ...

Is this legit or a Scam?
For those of you who are knowledgeable about Chris Abell whistles.. This guy claims to be an apprentice of Chris Abell. Regardless of whether or not that is true; the indirect claim he is making is that he is manufacturing whistles at the same quality of Chris Abell. Do any of you know if this claim...

Re: Slide whistle with 6 holes
The performance aspect of your invention certainly helps to put the spotlight on you. Even in those few clips people are seemingly "bedazzled" by this odd instrument. Quite a showpiece there. There have been many musicians that have tried to get people to pay attention by extern...

Re: Slide whistle with 6 holes
It kind of reminds me more of a plunger for a trumpet or a trombone. At least that seemed to be what the musician in the video was emulating any way.
