Re: Wooden recorder question
Not to hijack the thread or anything, but where did you purchase your Ecodear alto? I've seen a few U.S. online shops claim to have them in stock, but I've been skeptical about that because others still list them as being on "pre-order"...

Re: A few plastic tenor/bass recorder questions
What I really wish is that Aulos would re-introduce a new 311 model of plastic tenor, keyless this time, as an intermediate step between the keyless 211A and the keyed 511B. Something like the comparative upgrade of the 309A alto over the 209A soprano.... Just seems odd that there would only be one ...

A few plastic tenor/bass recorder questions
Background: I play unaccompanied, just for my own pleasure, using both F and C recorders (Haka soprano, Haka and Yamaha 312 altos, and a basic Aulos 211 tenor). The tenor is the weak link in that group, but I have short arms and skinny fingers and at least I can play the thing. I'd like to try anoth...

Some whistle humor
I read this in a joke book about 35 years ago. Just now remembered it while reading about whistles online....
I bought a wooden whistle,
But it wooden whistle.
Then I bought a steel whistle,
But it steel wooden whistle.
So I bought a tin whistle.
And now I tin whistle!

Re: tenor recorder
Anybody here attach a neck strap to their tenor recorder? I come from the world of saxophones where such things are normal, and I'm thinking I'd like an alternative to a thumb rest....especially since a more relaxed hand is more likely to manage a bigger stretch. I'd like to use a real neck strap ra...

U.S. woodwind sellers that accept returns?
I would really like to try a Yamaha tenor recorder, just to see if my hands can manage the thing without a bunch of expensive modifications. No local shops carry it, so that leaves online sellers. My question is, where can I find a seller that will accept a returned woodwind instrument once it's bee...

Re: Yamaha 400 Series Ecodear Recorders?
Has there been any official word as to whether Yamaha plans to make larger recorders with this material?

Re: Why oh why do I want a translucent Yamaha recorder?
I've ordered a blue one. I justified it because I needed a new thumb rest for one of my other recorders -- and who wants to pay shipping costs for just a thumb rest?

Why oh why do I want a translucent Yamaha recorder?
I don't play soprano recorder much (tinnitus), and I have a perfectly good Aulos 703 "Haka" soprano on hand for such occasions. But...but...the Yamaha translucent colored soprano would be so easy to tack onto another purchase for a few extra bucks.... and I'm told that it's not half bad......

Re: Yamaha 300 series alto recorder?
Thanks for the contact info! I suspect that I've owned the Yamaha long enough that they'll try to blame the cracks on me -- but they really just seemed to occur spontaneously a few weeks ago, without any impact whatsoever. In fact, they almost appear to have formed from the inside out.... The Yamaha...

Re: Yamaha 300 series alto recorder?
One rather surprising thing I just discovered on my Yamaha 314: The tip of the mouthpiece has developed a hairline crack in it! I have no idea how that happened, since I handle it very carefully and never bite or clamp down on the mouthpiece. Hopefully this isn't something that "just happens&q...

Re: Cheap wood recorder opinion ?
I've had an Aulos Haka for a couple of weeks now. I still prefer my Yamaha 314 for rapid/difficult fingerwork because it has a smaller stretch and is more forgiving of my faulty technique. But the Haka makes a bigger, more "soloist" sound (except on the lowest notes, which are on th...

Re: Yamaha 300 series alto recorder?
Thanks. I figure I'll order the Haka in woodgrain anyway, for that extra bit of non-slipperiness. If I like it enough to wear the woodgrain off, then I'll like it enough to either keep playing it or re-purchase it. One rather surprising thing I just discovered on my Yamaha 314: The tip of the mouthp...

Re: Yamaha 300 series alto recorder?
Glad I noticed this thread. I can vouch for the Yamaha 314's quality, though the stripey finish made me do a double-take at first. Now I'm contemplating pulling the trigger on an Aulos 709 "Haka" alto (already have the soprano), and I've been debating the woodgrain vs. no-woodgrain questio...
