Playing Outside the Lines

I am considering working my way through Vol1 of Leslie Anne Harrison' s Playing Outside the Lines in an effort to improve my playing. Has anyone experience of this series/her teaching methodology? To my non-expert eye it seems well-constructed. There is downloadable audio for all the tunes, in which...

Re: Flodding in NSW

Good to hear from you, Terry, and to learn you have escaped the flooding. I'm not sure how the 'flodding' got in there. Perhaps it proves that I am about as good a typist as I am a flute player. I imagine that some English dialect speaker somewhere pronounces 'flooding' that way.

Flodding in NSW

With the horrific scenes of flooding in Australia overshadowed by the horror in Ukraine, I was wondering if anyone has news of Terry McGee? He lives on NSW's east coast.

Re: History of Delrin in flute making

Some time ago I contacted the GUO company to ask them what went into their Grenaditte flutes. They refused to give any details. I passed on buying one, even though there are good comments about them

Terry McGee

We are all painfully aware of the terrible fires in Australia. On a map in our Canadian media I saw that fires were raging along the west coast where I believe Terry had retired to some years back. I immediately wondered how our old friend is faring and whether his property is in danger. Does anyone...

Re: Lancewood

On the question of alternatives to CITES restricted blackwood, a UK-based pipemaker told me he is using Leadwood ( Combretum imberbe ) for his overseas orders. He claims it closely resembles blackwood, turns well but hard to plane. Has anyone heard of leadwood being used for flutes? Apparently it is...

What a difference leaving off the -ly makes.[/quote] Pancelticpiper, keen-eyed, indeed! It was extreme negligent of me not to careful preview my post before hast pressing the submit button and assuming smug that it was perfect written. Luck , no harm done (except to English grammar) Michael

Edit profile

Could someone point me in the right direction to be able to edit one's profile (add photo, location)?
I have searched but can't find an <edit profile> button, though I imagine it is hiding in plain view.
Thanks

Re: Flute related novel

<"kkrell"]What pitch was the R&R supposed to be in the novel?> The key of the fictitious R&R remains unspecified. If a zealot reads the novel and fires off an angry "She couldn't play that on that," I shall be forced to shrug and reply, "Artistic licence." Thank...

Flute related novel

Excuse the self-promotion but if anyone is a fan of historical fiction they might enjoy my recently published novel The Cannington Episode (author Michael Montcombroux) which has a flute related element to it. The female protagonist plays a Rudall & Rose 6-key. While flute playing is a relative ...

Re: African blackwood question

It may be of interest that just minutes ago I received an email from a maker of Northumbrian small pipes in the UK who reported that he had today received confirmation from his wood supplier that African blackwood is, in fact, going on CITES II. What is puzzling is, if this is true (and I've now rec...

African blackwood question

A respected instrument maker recently told me that he had heard that African blackwood, Dalbergia melanoxylon , was going to be listed in the CITES Appendix II, as of next January. I scoured the CITES website (learned a great deal in the process!) but could find no support for such rumblings. Nor co...

Re: Review of new Grenaditte Flute

I was interested in the Guo Grenaditte but wanted to know the composition of the material. There are so many health concerns around various plastics that I thought this was a pretty reasonable expectation. When I contacted the Guo bros to inquire in the hope they'd send me a MSDS or at least a produ...
