Re: Kerry Optima Review

Again, I want to state that my point in this thread is to make objective observations about the Optima..... not subjective opinions. To say that another given whistle is superior or inferior to the next is a matter of opinion and not helpful here. If you are going to use specific whistles/brands as ...

Kerry Optima Review

Okay, I know there are plenty of streams on here about the Optima..... but I wanted to start one on the basis of a pure review without diving into muddied waters about price ranges, comparisons to other whistles, and/or tangents about what notable player used to play what whistle and subjective opin...

Re: Airgead Whistle Tour

Well, it looks like the tour is coming to an end and the whistle will be coming back to Alaska in the near future. I'm sad too, Pennycat! All of you have been so wonderful and helpful in your critiques. I could not have asked for more. Not only did every one of you have very positive words and affir...

Re: Airgead Realta whistle tour, any takers?

So, I sent the new whistle back to Pat last Thursday morning. Being in Alaska, even priority ans express mail can take a bit longer than usual..... plus post office employees apparently had the last few days off for the holiday. I was really hoping it would have gotten to Pat earlier, but usps.com i...

Re: Airgead Whistle Tour

Thank you both, Pat and Ted, for voicing your opinions. As Pat stated, I'm kind of waiting to see what sort of feedback I get at the end of the tour and weigh that into making a decision as to making my stock line of whistles just or equal tuning. No matter what though, Ted, I will absolutely work w...

Re: Hybrid Instruments

The length of the window in a whistle head, between the windway exit and the lip, is critical to the balance between high and low notes. Too short, and the low notes flip too easily into the next register. Too long, and the high second register takes too much breath pressure. My guess ... With a co...

Re: Airgead Realta whistle tour, any takers?

I wasn't quite sure what the conventional etiquette was for tours..... as pertaining to shipping and such. I just figured I might as well cover shipping up front instead of possibly inconveniencing any persons on the tour who might have participated in another tour(s) in which shipping costs were pa...

Re: Airgead Realta whistle tour, any takers?

Hmmmm...... So I had been under the impression that I could pre-pay postage on usps.com, then all anyone else would have to do is print up a shipping label and leave it in their mailbox for the postman (or woman), to take away. Apparently, though, usps.com will not allow me to email the shipping lab...

Re: Airgead Realta whistle tour, any takers?

Greetings once again! The whistle has been mailed and is on it's way out into the real world (and yes, I suppose I view Alaska as some sort of fantastical other world). There is still plenty of room for more destinations..... so if you are interested, just post a reply or send me a message! For thos...

Re: How long for smell to go away on a Freeman Tweaked whistle?

Some people are more sensitive to smells than others. The putty under the windway is certified safe for food preparation areas, but contains linseed oil, which does have a characteristic smell, which once in awhile someone comments about (less than five times in the eight years I've used it, but it...

Re: Buying my first tin whistles or 3.

Heh. Sousaphonist here (Luckily, I'm still in highschool and it's school owned), also a piper (at least I bought a pre-owned). Yea, I was very skeptical in buying my tin whistles because they were so cheap as a result of always choosing expensive instruments where people are always like, "You ...

and I can always invest something a little bit better to pursue making a Chinese/Celtic rock band. Lol! That is magnificent! I hope when that gets going, you will post recordings. I now desperately want to hear Chinese Celtic rock! I think you'll do fine with your purchase. I don't own a "Litt...

Re: 2013 - ROLL CALL for C&F Whistlers & Learners

Greetings. I'm Curtis in Juneau, Alaska. I was a bass player turned drummer. Then I moved to Alaska and had to leave the drums behind. I had to find something to scratch my musical itch and so I picked up a Faedog from a local book store two years ago. Then a few other whistles shortly after. I'm sl...

Re: Buying my first tin whistles or 3.

My apologies teddyy. When I wrote the previous response to your post I was unaware as to the limited choices on Amazon. I just browsed their whistle selection and cannot find very many of the options I put forth as potential choices. From what I saw on there I would recommend the Faedog. If you want...
