Re: Some question for reed.

Unfortunately plastic reeds just do not work well in the UP giving poor tone and invariably only about half the second octave at best. Humidity and temperature will cause reeds to open and close so will need to learn how to adjust them. They are relatively fragile and this need to be done with grea...

Re: Choice of Copley or Hamilton's pratten style flute.

Thanks guys. your reply is helpful. My choice is Hamilton's flute!! It's the Hammy. I have 2 of them - a 6 key post mount, and a custom keyless with a short foot. They are demanding, no shortcuts, brilliant players with an enormous tone. If you're a lazy player don't do it. If you're a working playe...

Re: Choice of Copley or Hamilton's pratten style flute.

Thanks guys. your reply is helpful. Both flutes are of great quality, and current designs have plenty of "bark". I have a Hamilton 6-key myself, very lightweight, and I think his flutes have a unique tone that cuts through sessions. There are some differences: Keywork: Copley: attractively...

Re: Who is the best pratten style flute maker??

The only truth is that these are all very good flutes, if you don't like one it won't be difficult to sell it and try a new one. I play a Hamilton, and I never felt very comfortable with Morvan flutes until I tried his last model. But is this because he changed some little things on his new model o...

Re: Who is the best pratten style flute maker??

Who is the best pratten style flute maker(?) I'd say John Hudson. But you might want to ask this question over on the Flute Forum. (oh, Mr. Moderator?) I would not trust YouTube videos to make such a judgement. Because one player can make a certain flute sound great does not mean it will sound the ...

Re: Practice of flute. (Tobin's Favourite)

Hey very nice playing. I enjoyed that. Few points I can pass on: ~ Let the tune evolve or grow. The tune should be slightly different between first and second (or third) time of playing (especially when soloing). Try and introduce different phrasings, ornaments and pauses (where you take a breath) ...
