Re: Upgrade whistle purchase?
The question is, why do you feel the need to "upgrade?" What property does your Mellow Dog not have that you are looking for in a whistle? For example, you've tried Susatos. People are often drawn to them because of their volume, they're louder than just about any other whistle on the mar...

Upgrade whistle purchase?
So I’ve been playing off and on for a few years a now, just for fun, no interest in really playing with others or anything like that. Pretty much all the whistles I play regularly are tweaked Freemans, in a couple different keys. I’m especially partial to my Mellow Dog set and my tweaked Bb. I do ha...

Re: Most Forgiving Low D?
Also, another that I'd like to try when funds permit: Carbony "close spacing". The "close spacing" is achieved using a radically novel design feature called "chimney extenders". So far, the reviews are quite favorable, indicating accessibility without the need for pipe...

Most Forgiving Low D?
Hey all. I haven’t been active here in several years. I tend to cycle thru my hobbies. Anyway, I have been playing my whistles lately and I’ve always been drawn to the lower registers (and feel they are kinder to the neighbors.) I have a low D Susato, I picked up for a steal, but I find it very diff...

Re: Budget Low D's?
I have a Susato Low D that I purchased new a couple months ago, and it's honestly not getting that much playing time in, amongst all my other recent acquisitions. If you're in the US, I'd be willing to part with it for $75 + shipping.

Re: A Facebook Whistle Maker page?
If you are making a facebook account for a business pursuit, the correct way to do it is to make a page, rather than making a personal account with your business name. The latter is a violation of TOS. I understand that some people hate the whole "walled garden" idea, but here's the rub - ...

Re: Supplying bank details to ebay buyer - is it safe?
I have paid for items using "e-checks" with my bank account number & routing number, so I don't have a doubt that an unsavory person could do the same thing if they got my account number. Yes, it's the same info that's on a check, but people can do fraudulent things with checks quite e...

Re: Whistle & Flute player considering learning violin
I don't have any answers for you, but I always wanted to learn violin. I dabbled a bit with bass guitar as a teen and I remember finding it kind of difficult. I've always played woodwinds since I was 11. I wonder now if I returned to a string instrument as an adult if I would find it easier or even ...

Re: Left Index Pain & switching to an Irish flute
Well the keywork and rods on a Boehm style flute are heavy and the weight isn't distributed evenly - making the flute want to roll back. I would imagine that's not an issue on keyless flutes, making the balance easier.

Re: Left Index Pain & switching to an Irish flute
Thanks again to everyone that's weighed in. Jem - yes, I did read both of the documents you linked to. The information about the flute hold is basically the same as what I read in the ebook I mentioned above. I have put a tiny piece of scotch tape where my right thumb should be as a reminder. But it...

Re: Left Index Pain & switching to an Irish flute
@ LynnB Of the Boehm flute, could your "balance" issues have to do with the position of your right hand thumb? Of simple system flutes, have you ever tried a physically shorter flute, such as an F flute? As far as the first question goes, perhaps. I am still reading about flute grips and ...

Re: Left Index Pain & switching to an Irish flute
Gobae & Jim, thanks to you both for your thoughtful replies. 2. The problem you have on the low whistle will not improve, because probably your rt hand position needs to be adjusted. As you are playing it now, you may injure yourself. The way to do it: Straighten the right wrist, don't bend it. ...

Re: Supplying bank details to ebay buyer - is it safe?
A quick google search will find plenty of ways that someone can scam you with a bank account number. It's also possible to pay for purchases using e-checks with a routing number and bank account number. Routing numbers can be found online in seconds, so if you give someone your bank account number y...

Re: Supplying bank details to ebay buyer - is it safe?
A person with zero feedback on eBay never gets the luxury of calling the shots, especially when they are the purchaser. The seller sets the terms of payment, and I'm betting yours requested payment by PayPal.
But to answer your question, this is almost certainly a scam.
