Re: Warning to makers: Walter Bender scam

This is a very, very common scam. It makes no sense that you would need to send money. You are the seller! It is similar to the money order scam on Craig’s List. A person sends you an email about you $500 item you are trying to sell on Craig’s List. He says he will send you a money order for $1000 i...

Re: Re-Shipping/Pick-Up Agent Scam Alert !!

Yes, a very common scam. I can't believe anyone falls for it, as it makes no sense. If you are selling an item, the buyer should be paying the shipper or pick up agent, not the seller! I've seen sellers ship their item and send payment to the scammer. Both the item and the cash are never seen again....

Re: Hohners: Lead fipple block?

"any knockoff would have to be entirely reverse engineered. Not sure if that's really worth the effort." Easily worth the effort. Someone tried to sell me a counterfeit silver peso that supposedly had only about $12 worth of silver in it. The coin was beautiful, and looked real. When I wei...

Re: Hohner's: Lead fipple block?

There is a guy from Greece who has a large supply of Bb and G Hohner whistles in new, unused comdition. Some friends and I had bid on them, didn't win, and we all got 2nd chance offers. It is hard to believe there is a big stockpile of new Hohners in Greece. My fear is that they are knock offs. I ho...

Looking to trade my Lon Dubh (polymer) for your Killarney D

I have been trying and trading different whistles. I would like to have a Killarney D whistle (in excellent shape) so I am willing to trade my Lon Dubh injection-molded polymer. It is in near mint condition, no scratches, dents or dings of any kind. I have played it very little, as I have about 50 w...

Re: Domestic and international air travel with whistles

I've had to travel a lot for work, and have never had trouble with my metal whistles. Recently I started keeping them out next to my liquids. That seems to have shortened the time through the xray machine.

Re: Copeland Nickel-silver D whistle for sale

Caveat emptor - Buyer beware, as this is a brand new member.

If you decide to buy, make sure you use a service like Paypal, but don't use Paypal gift, as you have no recourse if the whistle isn't shopped to you.

Re: New style Tilbury Bb - a quick review

I like Impempes and agree they have plenty of back pressure. I think the back pressure of the new Tilbury is definitely on the low side of the scale. Amount of back pressure, like amount of chiff is a personal prefernce. The low back pressure seems to work great for me in this particular whistle. I ...

Re: New style Tilbury Bb - a quick review

What you are calling the 'New Style' I think is the old style. On the blade, does it look like it was ground and is curved like a smile? That is the old style. Or is the blade made by pressing down on the tube like a Mack Hoover brass? That is the new style. The new style is spectacular, and one the...

Re: Feadog Pro D

Oops, you are correct Peter, that the Feadog Pro is thicker than the Generation. But I disagree with your comment "And the Feadog has always been among the sweetest/least shrill of 'standard' trad whistles..." It may have been true of the older models, which I like, but the latest are the ...

Re: Feadog Pro D

"Usually Feadogs, the good ones anyhow, are sweet players. My old Feadog MK1 is my all-time favourite D." I agree the MK1's were excellent. Mine from 1981 plays so much better than the current model. They sound nothing alike. I guess I sould have clarified that I meant the current model (M...

Re: Feadog Pro D

There is nothing special about it. The head comes from the same mold as the regular Feadogs, and so it has a similar shrill sound. It supposedly "is made using a heavier barrel" but it is about the same or lighter than a nickel plated Generation barrel, and is lighter than my nickel plated...

Amazing Chuck Tilbury Whistle

Chuck Tilbury sent me one of is new whistles and it is now my favorite whistle. It is the copper one, the forth one from the left. The Clare is a very good cheap whiste, the 1981 Feadan (not Feadog) is ok, the Burke and the Syn are both great whistles, but the Chuck Tilbury copper is spectacular. Wh...
