Re: Thoughts on Woodi whistles?
Thank you for the link - I looked briefly but not successfully. It didn't seem like something that I would actually want to purchase, but I wasn't familiar with the manufacturer. My experience has been that one nearly always 'gets what they pay for'. These whistles may look like a Susato or other br...

Thoughts on Woodi whistles?
I ran across a whistle on Amazon this morning that looks passingly like a Susato but it is branded 'Woodi': http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41jvHciyzXL._SL1024_.jpg http://www.amazon.com/Woodi-WI-921-Irish-Whistle-Matte/dp/B00HSSAASY/ref=sr_1_112?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=14364...

Re: Important Policy Change: New User Registrations
Are these changes due to a recent deluge of fraudulent accounts or have the you and the other Mods simply had enough of this kind of behavior?

Re: So I'm certainly no expert...
It was the piccolo part that I wasn't buying - unless it was a piccolo with a glandular problem.
Thanks for the information about the xiao - I'm not familiar with that instrument.

Ronaldo - It sounds like your project was akin to making a whistle out of styrofoam! Thank you for the information and the pictures.

Very pretty! What makes these more challenging than whistles made from other materials?

Re: "Typical" Way of Playing?
It is disputed whether the following piper is Johnny Doran, but it gives an idea of the "standing piper": http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7151/6515388801_720997efb0.jpg Note the chord between the popping valve and the pipes. That looks just like the gentleman I saw playing in the band - th...

"Typical" Way of Playing?
I recently saw a band in which the U-piper played standing-up. It seems that he is the only one that I have ever seen playing in that position and it looked awkward - is it common like that?

Re: Whistle vs flute
Never feel stupid for asking an honest question! They fingering is identical until you get to some of the half-holing/cross-fingering, and then they can become manufacturer specific (IMH - and very limited - O...). Check out the fingering charts at http://www.martindoyleflutes.com/fingeri...

Re: A newbie looking for help
Its not a book, but I recommend Blayne Chastain's online tutelage. I wish that I would have subscribed to it before I had learned all of those bad habits! As you progress, also consider Grey Larson's "The Essential Guide To Irish Flute And Tin Whistle" - another great reference! For a whis...

Re: Metal Whistle Polish
I usually don't polish my whistles - the brass ones have earned a nice patina to them and the nickle ones just "are". But, this whistle is very pretty and nearly perfect to the eye so I thought that I would touch it up just a bit. Perhaps it was also a way of making it "mine" sin...
