Re: playing the highest note
In addition to all that has been said (breath control being the most important factor in my opinion), I would like to weigh in by suggesting to try a very easy and simple tweak for the feadog (also effective on whistles with similar mouthpieces). The tweak I'm talking about is the one explained at t...

Re: Budget Low D's?
Funny... this night I dreamed of myself playing a low whistle. So alright, I'll give it a try. - Can someone suggest suitable PVC pipe dimensions? (Feadoggie??) I've still got some 18mm (id) pipe, but I guess that's way too narrow, no? Yes! One more step towards cheap Generation low whistles!...

Re: quiet whistle
... I used a section of bicycle tire inner tube (narrow road size) with a slot cutout that did the same thing Actually, it sort of started in a similar way for me. I first tried with a paper ring with a thin slot cut through it because I didn't want the tape I used initially to leave the whistle st...

Re: Budget Low D's?
[cut] How's that low D cost analysis spreadsheet coming? Very thorough, I didn't imagine you would go through all those details, I feel kind of sorry because I would have been satisfied with much less. Indeed the prospect you outlined starts from the point where -say- Generation headquarters have t...

Re: quiet whistle
Isn't this about the same concept as the tone ring on Parks whistles? Chicken or egg? Actually the first time I heard of the silencing ring on Parks' whistles I tried to figure out if the system used was similar to mine (or more appropriately the other way around) but ultimately couldn't tell for s...

Re: Budget Low D's?
Shouldn't the low-end spectrum of low whistles be in line with the high whistles' low-end spectrum? Nope. The tooling to make a large whistle is considerably more expensive, just talking from my own lathe buying experiences. Of course much of that depends on the type and the design of the whistle. ...

Re: quiet whistle
I would like to add one method of silencing a whistle that I use for almost all my whistles. I place a piece of a PVC pipe over the window and slide it around to open more or less and slightly adjust the volume from almost mute to full. It is very simple to make and can be applied, with varied degre...

Re: Budget Low D's?
I would like to chip in, hoping Tricky_Widget won't mind me asking a question that is bugging me. Why we can find dozens, if not more, of high whistles that cost less than 10-15 Euros and when is time to go low, prices just go up high (although, admittedly and to the extent of my knowledge, not so h...

Re: 2013 - ROLL CALL for C&F Whistlers & Learners
I have been playing the tin whistle since May-June 2012. Started on a Waltons brass D, I soon moved on to self made whistles (about 2-3 weeks into playing for the first time), but also soon enough wanted to get other new whistles. I acquired several low end whistles from different makers (clarkes', ...

Re: Dixon Trad Problem
My Sweetone D gives a pretty good vented e, too. Maybe something to do with the conical bore, as my Copeland D behaves the same. But interestingly, my Sweetone C won't sound vented e at all, but jumps right the the c'-nat. I too have tried the Sweetone D and C and they both behave exactly as you de...

Re: Seven months.
Well, I play since late May this year and I feel like I need years to get where you are right now.
Congratulations.
How much have you been practicing in these seven months?

Re: Tunes from Mor
Well, I think you underlined an important facet of whistle playing for beginners. Initially, I basically articulated notes with my diaphragm and back of the throat, almost incapable of tonguing. Then, all of a sudden (well, almost), I started tonguing like it was the only natural way of playing and ...

Re: Tunes from Mor
Hi everybody, here are a few more attempts at not tonguing at all that I recorded last week. The first two are classics of beginners: Egan's Polka (Sweetone D) The Dawning OF The Day (Feadóg D) I feel like they could be slightly better but it is tough to record a good one. Next are my first two anth...

Re: Supplying bank details to ebay buyer - is it safe?
I would not necessarily trust the word of a bank teller as the definitive proof nothing evil can be done. Talk to someone in fraud prevention who's job it is to really know this stuff. I'm sorry Lynn because I feel like I'm becoming the pedantic one here, but are you unloading onto me the burden of...

Re: Tunes from Mor
Thanks for your input John, I have been playing the whistle more and more and more since I started last summer and I feel like is going to take even more of my time in the future. And now, like Andreas requested, a very quick and dirty try at Scarborough Fair: Scarborough Fair (Feadóg single Nickel ...
