Re: Harmonica Players
Harmonica (diatonic for me) is the one instrument where I never use any kind of notation - the thought has never occured to me even once, since I first picked one up nearly 3.5 decades ago. It has never crossed my mind, until I saw this poll.. strange that, as I could read standard notation back the...

Re: Hello, some help identifying a whistle for a beginner :)
My Feadog plays accurately as measured by a tuner (I only did that for the first octave), provided I apply some breath control. In particular, the F# must be pushed a little bit (it's a D whistle). I wrote a little bit about this as a reply to another thread somewhere too. Basically it boiled down t...

The Feadog is tunable, just grab the head and twist firmly. Then move it a mm or two out util it's not sharp anymore (test by blowing), align it with the holes when it's OK and you're done.
My Feadog was the same, after doing the above it's fine.

Re: Original Clarke penny whistle
As Mike said. Btw, it's F# and not F.. My Clarke is reasonably well in tune. But it must be played softly. I just checked the first octave with a tuner, and I can in fact play it exactly in tune according to the tuner.. I just have to hold back and blow a little bit carefully for E and push a little...

Re: Thoughts on WHOAD
You and I are very similar Tor, in that I am 53 years old and have played guitar since I was 10, and I have gone through various levels of GAS. I haven't owned one electric for more than 15 years and I've owned an acoustic longer than that because I've forgotten about it. Right now I own 9 guitars....

Re: Thoughts on WHOAD
Visiting a slightly old thread again.. I'm very new at whistle (and I only have 8 whistles, and only 2 more on order). But I've been playing guitar since I was a boy, and I've had a lot of opportunity to study GAS and its causes. For me GAS has gone through different phases, and I think I see a patt...

Re: Hi everybody..
Another beginner. Bought a Guinness Walton after my second trip to Dublin, this last Easter. Grabbed it at the airport (some leftover Euros in my pocket). I found it was easy enough to play simple melodies on it. I played the recorder in school, and it was always just squeak and noise. But when I tr...
