Jerry tweaks more than high D's. I have a Bb... He tweaks all generationsCynth wrote:Ok, I'd like to remind you that Jerry Freeman tweaks high D Generation whistles. I have one. It was puchased through a shop, so I take it that he is at it pretty seriously and steadily.

Whistle bag
I recently bought a low D that came with a bag made of wool, and I liked having it in something that protected it. Since I have more than few whistles, I looked for more online... All in vain. So, my wife one day took me to get some material to make our grand daughter a quilt. So I picked out some m...

Re: Old Blind Dogs - Whistlers
Thanks Feadoggie! I really liked the harp solo! I think you are right.. just have to play it until I get it the way I want it. So, you are from Bethlehem? I have a cousin in Brodheadsville! Maybe next time I get out there, I bring a whistle and we trade lies and secrets?

Re: Old Blind Dogs - Whistlers
Thanks for trying, guys. I found this on the Sessions too, and have been playing it, but it isn't the same. I suppose I am going to have to sit down and tear it apart note by note... Like, what else have I got to do?!

Old Blind Dogs - Whistlers
I am very fond of the Old Blind Dogs , especially the album Four on the Floor . Due to this admiration, I would like to play "Bedlam Boys" as Rory Campbell does. Does anyone know what key whistle he is using? Oh, the song is also known as The Right of Man, and is from a 1600's poem describ...

See also this old thread about Duponol, where some health concerns were expressed: And if one shares these health concerns they might also want to look into how they are washing and rinsing their dishes and eating utensils each day - same stuff by and large. Could cleaning up after the Exxon Valdez...

Re: Mositure issue Aluminum whistles- permanent/ semi perm Fix?
Duponol is a good place to start. I have some experience with Domnahl's (Daniel's) whistles since I own a low D, low F and high D. They are very decent instruments. The low F is particularly nice. But like many low cost, low key instruments there are compromises. The fipple block Daniel uses is, I ...

Re: Playing the 2nd Octave on the Tin Whistle help?
Try this simple tweak: use a piece of tape to cover 1/3rd to 1/2 of the bore end hole. This will provide more backpressure and allow second octave access with lower breath pressure. It will reduce shrillness because of lower windway velocity. Covering the bottom 2 or 3 toneholes when playing the Up...

Re: Can you play a C song in D?
I have to admit, music theory is simple in some respects, and then becomes quite confusing when you limit the notes (as on a whistle) and throw in some sharps and flats. I still like to see something on paper once in a while, but find myself humming songs and picking up a whistle. I think that is so...

Re: Mositure issue Aluminum whistles- permanent/ semi perm Fix?
I am playing a Domnahl na Gruen low D, the windway is all aluminum and the block is a blue colored translucent acrylic. My biggest issue is that I have a hard time finishing a song before I need to clear it. I may have to look at some type of heater for it, as holding the mouth piece in my hand and ...

Mositure issue Aluminum whistles- permanent/ semi perm Fix?
I know many of you have said soap, Guinness, warming the whistle, etc are your tricks for stopping the build up of moisture in the fipple. Is there a more permanent solution that is easy to apply and not detrimental to the whistle or the sound?

Re: Newbie needs help-New Low D is shifting octaves WAY too fast
Some low D's can be touchy at the bottom. That said, you seem to indicate that the problems gets worse as you play. Could you be suffering from condensation in the windway? Play again, and when the problem happens put a finger over the fipple window and blow hard. Does the problem go away? If so th...
