Re: Cranns on A?
I might be wrong, but isn't he just bouncing his finger quickly as he plays the note to create that little warble.

Re: Air: My Love Is A Band Boy
Many of the airs collected by O'Neill that don't fit into the now usual categories of reels, jigs, hornpipes etc, or that aren't slow airs, based on song tunes, are now no longer played. It's a shame. I have a few, so someone plays them at least. :) Care to share some of the titles of these no long...

Re: O'Sullivan's March - Out on the Ocean - Are they related?
Montrose's March or Rock and a Wee Pickle Tow seems to be a favorite of the pipe and drum brigade I have now discovered. An online source has this tune in a collection published in 1678, as you indicated Peter.

Re: O'Sullivan's March - Out on the Ocean - Are they related?
Okay that's interesting that Out on the Ocean has an older paper trail. I guess another possibility for old tunes that are similar is that they got twisted in transmission, or misremembered the morning after the night before.
O'Sullivan the Great is good tune too.

O'Sullivan's March - Out on the Ocean - Are they related?
Two Jigs I like very much, but they are so close in melody and structure I was wondering if they started out as the same tune once? My understanding is O'Sullivan's is an old clan March so I would assume this would be the older/original tune? Anyone have some history on the tunes they would care to ...

Re: "The Butterfly" - Matt Molloy / "Chieftains" & James Galway
I'm sort of with you Akiba on your view of Sir Galway. Whenever I have heard him, its never really moved me in any way emotionally. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people that do like his musical approach and get much from it. I appreciate the mastery he displays over of his instrument though, and I j...

Re: 3-D printed reeds?
Why not start by printing something more fundamental i.e. a tube of "cane". My experience is that reed variation is largely the result of cane variation - solve that by a repeatable, consistent, tube of correct material, density, diameter, flexibility, etc and you're half way home, aren't...

Re: 3-D printed reeds?
I second what Mick says. You could print accurate tapered staples to tie the reed head too! Not sure how a plastic staple would effect the tone of the reed though.
The materials that are presently printable are just not up to the riggers of a vibrating reed head I feel.

Re: Riverdance pipers
Was he not the piper that played on the Eurovision show that was the catalyst for the Riverdance phenomenon! Well he was on Timedance but that was more than ten years before Riverdance, hardly a catalyst. I wouldn't say there's much of a connection between the two (well Bill Whelan was playing keyb...

Re: Riverdance pipers
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't Liam O'Flynn be on that list also? Was he not the piper that played on the Eurovision show that was the catalyst for the Riverdance phenomenon!
