Re: What is the latest thinking of the best low d whistles

I have an MK Pro, which I like. You can really push it, taking the tone from fairly pure up into tons of harmonics. I haven't seen anyone weigh in on the Burke Viper? I've heard good stuff about it.

FS: Ray Sloan Scottish Smallpipes SOLD

I'm selling my circa 1992 Ray Sloan African Blackwood smallpipes. It has chanters in A and D with split stocks and a stock cap. Both chanters have Gernam silver hand chased ferrules and imitation ivory soles. The set has four drones, 2 in A and 2 in D. The D drones will tune up to E, and the low A w...

Burke Brass B SOLD

Not playing it, purchased in 2006 as a special order. Beautiful, clean tone, no issues at all. Michael's site lists retail for a Bb at $250, I'll let this go for $200 or best offer. Will also be listed on Facebook C&F site, see there for pics. Cheers!

Re: WTB Copley Delrin

The other option I am looking at is popping for a Shannon.. Or the Somers that is for sale on the Used forum.. except I have heard that the Somers is a very loud flute.. Anyone ?? I've only had my Somers Pratten for a day or two. You can MAKE it play loud, and a Pratten has a lovely loud "honk...

There's a Delrin Somers for sale on the "used" forum. I just got one. Nice tone and great in a bar brawl.

Re: Sindt A/Bb Set

I was so impressed with my Sindt High D whistle that I bought one in each of the following pitches Eb, C, Bb and A. That was 10 years ago or more. Great investment and they are whistles that I enjoy using all the time. I have a Sindt D/Eb which are top-notch, matched only by my Water Weasels. Don't...

Re: Sindt A/Bb Set

The actual seller, David Parkhurst (who is a fine piper, upright chap and likes Laphroaig) is selling a Sindt A/Bb set, one head, two bodies. Oops.... it's sold. Stay tuned, I'll be posting a Burke brass B (I think it's a B, I'm at work) for sale tonight. I will post both on FB and here, give fellow...

Re: Copper as a whistle making material

BTW, to see what's possible, you might pull up http://www.geocities.ws/parkhurstwhistles/whistles.htm. It's an old site but it seems to work for me.

It's not voodoo, you just have to be patient and have about 20' of copper kitchen pipe to destroy.

Re: Copper as a whistle making material

I've worked with copper a bit :D . It's fairly soft, easy to turn on a machine lathe as long as your tools are sharp. You can make a basic whistle by hand using shop tools. In my opinion it needs nothing in the way of coating, although if you let it sit for a long time there is a transient copper ta...

Seeking Chris Coe

Hi Gang,
Looking to find the contact info for Chris Coe, pipemaker. I assume he's still making pipes? Looked on the NPU site and couldn't find any info. Any help is appreciated. Cheers!

Re: Copper Whistles

I think I may have a little experience with copper whistles to impart. The amount of "chiff" as well as a great deal of the tone is a product of HOW it's made, as much as the material it's made of. I have made both very warm and very edgy sounding whistles from copper, it just depends on h...
