Re: low g search

I prefer narrow bore, not too loud or too wide finger spacing for my smaller hands... Narrower bore normally goes with longer tube and wider spacing for any given pitch. It's physics and one of the prices of narrower bore, particularly in lower whistles where spacing's more likely to be significant...

It's a 3/8 bourrée. Frequently played so slowly (thanks to Solas?), but should really move!

Re: Gradual drop at the end : how to do it?

How to do that droopy end-of-phrase thing? 1. Consider whether you really want to adopt what could, despite some expert and expressive exponents, become an awkward mannerism. 2. If you still like it, apply breath control and/or finger shading according to context (e.g. what note you're on). 3. Bewar...

Re: Mollenhauer single key flute?

Maybe molding and not machining is the right way for resins ? Moulding will always be more limiting than machining in terms of achievable bore profiles etc. There's nothing you can do to shape a moulded flute that you can't with a machined one, but the reverse is not true. I wonder how sharp the bl...

I was thinking the opposite, really... accompaniment as rhythmic, so not suggesting bodhrán as any kind of surrogate bass.

Here’s a good video showing how this was used for a Tom Petty song: https://m.youtube.com/watch?fbclid=IwAR3nBi8qZWfLDxP8cDgPGWVFC9Z4TFWmqBh3qoFXhXsbUZEHN9T4fEtqWPk&v=uw0YLaVfAwU&feature=youtu.be Sorry I can't help with your questions, but thanks for drawing my attention to the concept and ...

Re: Whistle embellishments

In Irish traditional music whistles are traditionally played with a certain set of performance practices. Sure one can play classical music on the whistle using classical performance practices, or jazz using jazz performance practices, and so on. All these things are valid. But they're not "Ir...

Re: Whats the deal with Sindt like whistles

It made me wonder: 1) What if Generation ONLY sold those top two whistles, and binned the rest? They could probably sell them for $100 each, and gain a reputation as one of the world's finest whistle makers. 2) What if Generation ONLY sold the top ten whistles, and binned the rest? They could proba...

Re: Thumb hole in Burke whistles

You're probably right but I'd like you to motivate it. An unfamiliar use of 'motivate' partially cleared up by Google, but let's give this a shot... You are, by your own admission, a relative newcomer to whistles asking questions about them (purpose of thumb holes, narrow bore etc.). But still defi...
