Still Whistlin'

Hello Chiffers! (or Fipplers if you prefer :D ) I haven't been around in quite a while. Thankfully, it looks like some of the regulars are still here to help us newbies out. (How many years until we are no longer newbies?) I'm still playing the whistle, and in recent months have been enjoying it muc...

Re: How does a beginner know when to perform rolls

I had to get out of lurk mode and reply to this one. Part of me is bothered by the whole idea that the "realness" of a tune is dependent upon how much ornamentation is used, rolls in particular. I know, I'm still considered a beginner, even after 5 years, but listening to various well know...

Re: What whistle related apps / programs do you use?

Play it Slowly - as the name implies, and pitch can be changed. Gtick- a metronome. Rarely use it, but it's nice to have. Audacity- It helps (and humbles) to record myself once in a while to hear what progress has been made and what needs work. All of these are for Ubuntu (Linux). Audacity can proba...

Re: Post Thumb Fusion Whistle Playing.

I can't relate to your particular situation, but musicians have found ways to compensate for various physical limitations. Django Reinhardt and Les Paul immediately come to mind.

Where there's a will, there's a way. :)

Re: Has Chiff and Fipple become a SH whistles Sales site?

Maybe it's just that everything essential concerning playing has been said (several times) and can now be accessed via the search function. The search function has been a great tool, especially for someone like me. I still consider myself a newbie to the music and instrument, and try not to bother ...

Looking for a video on how Clarke/Shaw whistles are made.

I like to see how instruments are made, and haven't found a video online that shows the making of a conical whistle. This being the place of all things whistle, if there is one out there, someone here will most likely know about it. So far, just the history of the Clarke or how to make CPVC whistles...

Good on ya if you can play one of those monsters. As far as I've gone is a low G, and that's plenty for me.

Thanks for the tune. Some lovely playing going on there. He's another player I definitely need to become more familiar with. May he rest in peace.

Re: A new double jig from L.E. McCullough ...

Thanks for posting a link to the video. It's nice to watch people enjoying the music they're playing, and it has to be rewarding to have 'em playing one of your tweaked whistles too.

Some more good stuff from Mr. McCullough!
