Re: Wood whistles: Any advice to a beginner's search? :)
With this price range you can possibly look at sopilka - a Ukrainian folk flute. The fingering is different, but the sound it produces is pleasant. Here is a link to some e-bay sopilkas: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=sopilka&_sacat=0 I have this one http://www....

Re: Newbie: Low D whistle question
I have Dixon polymer low D, and like it a lot. It is, of course, the only low whistle I have. Recently I was thinking of getting Goldie, and reconsidered: in my case, I need to improve the player, not the whistle :D Also, I am not sure I would like the feel of metal in my mouth (plastic and wood are...

Re: Goldie Low D question
I'm curious about the Marek Gonda six-hole flutes. Does he make any in the low D range? I would like to have a low D out of wood or bamboo. I've found a Swedish maker who makes a number of kinds of six-hole fipple flutes but they are expensive (for my wallet)... I have two of Marek's six-hole flute...

Re: Goldie Low D question
Thank you all for your helpful comments, I truly appreciate it! I guess my Dixon deserves more attention before I venture into a different instrument. Hi Zabava77, Do you play other whistles ? HTH, trill I play high D (made by Tyrone Head), various sopilkas (Ukrainian folk whistle), and a couple of ...

Goldie Low D question
I looked around the forum before posting, but did not find the answer, so there. My first and only low whistle is Dixon D (plastic, tunable). While I like the way it sounds, by the time I get to A in second octave it becomes unreliable (squeaky). I am sure part of the problem is my lack of experienc...

Re: Overtone flutes (koncovka, tilinko) makers
I have three of Marek Gonda's instruments: one koncovka, and two flutes. All of them are highest quality instruments. As far as his prices: maybe it is because he does not have middlemen to pay to. You order from him directly.

Re: Overtone flutes (koncovka, tilinko) makers
I have a few flutes from Marek Gonda (your first link), including koncovka. His instruments are of impeccable quality, wonderful warm sound.
Here is the picture of my koncovka:

Re: Romanian NON-Panflutes?
I found this interesting recording of Romanian/Moldavian kaval: http://youtu.be/tMklhk8d6xA Are there any Romanian or Moldavian tunes for beginners I can use with this instrument (hoping to get one soon)? Any suggestions will be welcome! This one http://youtu.be/9h19Uf-NZmw looked like improvisation...

Re: Blesbok horn flute
The ibex horn has a unidirectional curve, unlike the one in the video which - as has been stated - is the horn of a blesbok, a South African antelope. Although the instrument has always been called "gemshorn" or "cor de chamois", the illustrations of Virdung and Agricola clearly...

Re: Antique kavals on ebay
Veselin Hasabaliev is a top class maker, I think his instruments range from about 180 Euros; also I've heard only the best about Radoslav Paskalev - he is in the US. Stay away from anything which is too cheap. The kaval is a most beautiful instrument, but it needs to be taken serious, it's not real...

Re: Newbie question
One perverse thing that can come up when you're using the D fingering for all whistles is that, say, if you find a tune that's written in Bb, and you want to play it on a Bb whistle, you first need to transpose the sheet music to D, and then play it on your Bb whistle, which you're now pretending i...
