Re: The Big Dipper
I have never seen the big dipper under polaris. What latitude was the photo taken from? Based on the assumed horizon from the picture, I’d say it’s 40-something North. At such a latitude, those constellations would be visible in that portion of the sky during the Summer and Autumn months. Specifica...

FS: Kerry Optima low E (tunable) [SOLD]
SOLD -------------- For sale is a Kerry Optima tunable low E. This is my second low whistle to go through. As with my first one, I thought I'd use it, but it just ended up collecting dust instead (I guess low whistles just aren't my cuppa tea.) It's in excellent condition (I purchased here from JTC...

Re: Fake Freeman?
Based on the seller's other items, I'm guessing that he/she acquires items from garage/yard/rummage sales, and then sells it on eBay considerably marked-up. Is the seller intentionally trying to sell a fake Freeman tweaked whistle as the real thing? I doubt it (he/she probably isn't aware of the dif...

Re: Apollo 11 Landing Site Panorama
http://mathew.myrupfamily.com/images/apollo_11_thumbnail.jpg This is a 360-degree panorama picture I made a few years ago. --- I'm sure most people couldn't care less about the details behind making the image, but I'll post it anyway (I figure at least Denny can appreciate it. :)): Originally I was...

Re: Curiosity Before Mars: Seven Minutes of Terror
The relatively large size of the Curiosity rover cannot be fully appreciated from the video alone. In viewing the video, I think people tend to see it as something the size of the original Sojourner rover. As you can see in the image below, the Curiosity rover is the size of a small car and not a ra...

Re: Kitchen Sanitation
I voted "no." I use my measuring cup solely for tap water. I throw it in the dishwasher every 1 to 2 weeks only to clean the hard-water line that forms (and not for sanitary reasons.)

FS: Ethnicwind aluminum low D [SOLD]
[SOLD] I purchased this whistle directly from Nick Metcalf (on eBay) for $150 less than a year ago. I haven't played it as much as I thought I would (I'm more of an alto and soprano whistle guy.) It has a nice dark green iridescent/metallic paint job. However, many of the Celtic-knot and dragon dec...

I'm whoozy. Pronounced "huh-wooozy" or "fwoozy." Kind of like Wheat Thins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX8-5hU1cr8 Here's another one of Stewie. In referring to Wil Wheaton, Stewie not only pronounces "Wheaton" as "Hweaton," but he pronounces the H -less &...

question about clotted cream
For you folks from the British Isles, what is the consistency of clotted cream supposed to be? Thickness - and consistency -wise, is it closer to sour cream? Refrigerated butter? Room-temperature butter? It's not readily available in the USA (except at specialty import shops [where it's way over-pri...
