Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

A fiddly job, which I haven't done very well. However, here goes: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UkcgxyaWEZs/TmaPZ3nhziI/AAAAAAAAAEY/kEvMaVitOKk/s400/P9060001.JPG The Bb key with the smaller pad resting in it https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9BpyFv7vCrY/TmaPcDUUfQI/AAAAAAAAAEk/FRfl3grjK6M/s400...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

Sorry for the delay - term starts on Monday, and what with the things I should have done, the things my son should have done, and all the chillies I bought last weekend, I'm having to leave this to odd moments. Here are some pictures: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-YV7X7RusG8k/TmHKmbuZVYI/AAAAAA...

Re: Can't make toffee for toffee?

(Please excuse me dropping in, but treacle toffee is something I like to think I can do. Irish music, pipes, whistles etc, very little clue!) At least when I make it, treacle toffee is not an elegant, crisp, refined confection, more of an offensive weapon. It should be the colour of tar (black treac...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

Well, I'm back, and I've done some of my holiday homework (and not just the cork research)! I've also tried winding the joint - it doesn't look too bad: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-qmO6DhSzYSk/Tl_Y6o2I28I/AAAAAAAAADo/OKOxyrpF6vc/s400/P9010014.JPG and feels firm, but I can't really tell if it ...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

You know, it seemed really surprising that I didn't have any corks lying around...Guess what I just found in an old box of winemaking kit? :D (May still do the research though!) someone with a lathe.... to fairly close tolerances Really miss my Grandad - built a lathe to make lace bobbins for my Mum...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

Still sorting out to leave early tomorrow, so I haven't made much progress in the last day. I do have some grease, bore oil and pads now, though the 9mm pads were out of stock. Having persuaded my family that we can manage with one car, I don't think I dare fill it up with bits of flute, let alone a...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

ask if you were the annoyer or the annoyee. Oh, I have my moments in both directions. If I don't start getting ready to pack the car it will be entirely the former though. Back on topic, the local shop sends repairs to Hitchin, so I've ordered various bits from Windcraft. Though the flute is pretty...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

local music store I hadn't realised that the the shop in Ware did repairs until just now. I'll phone them in the morning. But I've got plenty of sealing wax, if I can find it, so I won't need the shellac! The metal bits are starting to look beautiful, even if I have just stuck a spring into my fing...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

I have been following this thread. All I can say is kudos to Jemtheflute. Wow, nice of you to help with this. :D I second this! I'd hoped for a few pointers, but this is amazing! Lapping doc on its way by e-mail. Arrived, thank you. I have lots of suitable thread, but I'll need to get hold of some ...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

All out! Thanks to Andrew, (who I shouldn't really call a child now he can vote, but, well, you get in the habit) and you. The perfect combination of untrained exuberance and someone who knows what they are doing. And a pencil sharpener, which he used as a support. Yes please to the thread lapping d...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

Well! While I was potting the jam I wasn't watching the children - the one that suggested the vice has just handed the body back to me with the pins loosened "by the application of leverage" - it involved a vice, a nut to support and a screwdriver. :o The pillars seem to be fine. :D Still ...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

It's a good thought, but I don't think so. The freed one is certainly unthreaded, and the ends of the others look similar - one end fairly smooth, flat. and circular; the other end with a slight shoulder on one side, so that end is flat but D shaped. On two the D end is 0.5 mm proud; on the third it...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

(Sorry, prepared a reply then got distracted by jam making and lost it.) A Progress report: I have got the top off by following your instructions. Part of the cork is stuck to the inner wall so I will obviously have to replace it, but otherwise it looks fine. The thread is coming off well. What shou...

Re: Hello post by accidental piccolo buyer

Hows that? (I'm assuming the blowing edge is the one you blow towards, so the open end is on the right of the picture.) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TtVXCaiZPeQ/TkALf4rIKQI/AAAAAAAAACU/wzdD59CxiU0/s600/P8080001.JPG I bought some Silvo wadding, and the meths, but forgot the dowel. I have lots o...
