Re: Harmonica playing wrong note

I seem to recall that harmonica reeds need to be broken in slowly. Full volume with new reeds can damage them.

Re: Best earphones for low whistle?

I really like my Grado iGi earbuds. Not top of the line, but many times better than the others I've tried. For headphones I think the Grado SR-60's are very hard to beat for the price. However, the biggest difference was when I got rid of my ipod and replaced it with a Cowon player. Incredible diffe...

Re: Whistle case/roll design preferences ...

Be aware that tanned leather often contains many salts that can react with the copper in brass tubes resulting in corrosion (verdigris). Leather also retains moisture, hastening the corrosion. Use of a good quality leather and keeping things dry will help, as will coating brass with a protective oil...

Re: ivoirine (false ivory) or other materials to make moun

This company makes imitation ivory, mostly for pistol grips. It's widely regarded as a very good substitute for ivory--shows grain and can be purchased with coloration approximating natural ivory aging.

I'd just like to add that adding vit E to food grade oils will only work as a temporary measure to prevent oxidation. Sooner or later, it will go rancid.

Re: Burke EZ Low D For Beginner

As a fellow low D beginner, with a brand spankin' new MK pro in polished purple, I'll share my thoughts. I'm fortunate enough to have a weekly, low whistle class available through the wonderful Apple Mountain Music, Albuquerque, NM. The instructor is wonderful, and keeps us going slow and in control...

Re: WTB MK PRO (PURCHASE PENDING)

Congrats!

Just FYI, I received on new MK Pro this past Saturday.

Ordered online, from MKwhistles.com. Very prompt, polite and personal service.

Total delivery time from ordering date, from Scotland to New Mexico, was 11 days.

I've got the polished purple, and it is a quite a looker.

Re: Milligan in A?

AvienMael, I apologize for my earlier post, and I apologize to all the members of this forum. My remark was inexcusably rude and only reflects poorly on myself. I do wish I had instead followed Brent's idea and took a deep breath and a pint. However, AvienMael, I ask that you consider that your repl...

Re: Milligan in A?

Thanks. I should say I have a Milligan in D, and it is a really lovely and fun instrument. I am hoping someone with more experience with the A whistle and more than a quick toot in the shop could chime in. (I'm also a bit of a prude when it comes to blowing a whistle that isn't mine--irrational pers...

Re: Chap Stick on Wooden Fipple?

My wooden block shrunk, so I filled the space and coated the lip-touching wood with thin layer of epoxy. So far it is working well. Although it had a funny taste until the epoxy cured.

Wax should work well, and it shouldn't harm the wood at all.

Milligan in A?

I'm lusting after a new whistle or two.

Has anyone had experience with Gene Milligan's whistle in A?

Local shop has one in red DymondWood and it sure is a looker.

Re: curiosity from non-piper

Thanks all for the great responses.

From now on, I'll focus on the fingers and elbows and shoulders and such while watching videos. Although I think it's quite natural to be drawn to facial expression of those in distress.

Now where did I put that quart jar of mixed benzodiazepines??

curiosity from non-piper

Hello. I'm just wondering if uilleann pipers can feel vibrations of the instrument as you play. Can you feel the vibrations in the chanter? Do the drones make your liver quiver? Intensity? That would just seems like the bee's knees. Also, I have the impression that pipers rarely smile or laugh while...
