I think some of you may know him from YouTube for his Uilleann piping and Low Whistling, but he’s going to start some whistle tutorials going forward.

Re: Whistle shops in the Pacific NW of USA?
if You’re looking for a try before you buy kinda scenario short of Generations, Oaks and Feadogs you’re not gonna be in much luck to find a “whistle shop” in the PNW or anywhere aside from Ireland. Most of us buy from the makers directly or second hand with either online reviews and personal recomme...

Re: Outdoor Whistle Recommendation (in Windy Places...)
If your whistle is tuneable flip the head upside down. It helps but might not keep all the wind out.

Re: Need help: concerning Sam Murray flutes and cork positio
There isn't a definitive answer to that. What is the setting currently from your Windward indicator rod? I've overhauled several Murray flutes and stopper position hasn't been unusual. I'd set it at 20 or 21mm from the embouchure centre and test the octave intonation and low end tone/response. In t...

Need help: concerning Sam Murray flutes and cork position
So l’m in a bit of a pickle. The other month I was trying to help a friend out by cleaning and oiling his Sam Murray flute which was not really maintained. I have a cork stick that helps adjust my Windward flute to the base cork position and thought I could use that to position the cork on the Sam M...

Re: What Tune Are You Learning?
Finished learning the Morning Thrush after hearing it at a session a few weeks ago. I’m loving Grace Kelly’s whistle version (the ornaments are fun as heck!) but for session playing, Mick O’Brien’s seems like the standard: Grace Kelly’s https://youtu.be/UupFW-97nmg Mick O’Brien’s in C https://youtu....

Re: It's complicated choosing a flute
Thanks for that informative post Casey. Had no idea that Flutes were tax exempt under NAFTA (well, so long as a certain someone doesn’t threaten to dismantle it!) and that will help me in my future decision on US flute buying. Does this extend to Delrin handmade flutes too?

Re: It's complicated choosing a flute
As someone with smallish hands, I play with pipers grip and most flutes I can play decently. Also own a keyless Windward flute and its a great instrument for beginners and pros alike, plus you get that nice bottom D from their Pratten models. But if you’d like to get a states side blackwood flute wi...

Re: WHich whistle is she playing
Looks like a black Walton’s. I think the camera ratio is off so it appears elongated. Shes been know to change her whistles every performance as she throws the whistle into the crowd after the show. There were a few on eBay for sale last I checked (if you trust the sellers!)

Re: Price, Skill and Sound
The only inexpensive whistle I ever found great out of the box without any tweaking or modifications are Oaks. It was my next whistle before I got a Sindt and I still play my D as my car whistle. Some would disagree with me but I've bought 2 and both have been great. Next step would be to buy Tony D...

Re: The Inner Light
I've always had a fondness for Inner Light, even if it's not trad. Apparently Patrick Stewart wanted to get the playing part right by learning a bit of whistle to mimic the motions and give it a more authentic look during the filming of the episode. True story: earlier this year I was at an Irish tr...
