Re: I Painted My PVC Low D Whistle

I took the parts off of the cardboard tube. The tube did keep the paint out of the insides of all of the parts. On this whistle my holes are sized out with a countersink bit then fin tuned to size with file, so not much paint could build up on hole sides. When paint is thoroughtly set I will fine sa...

Hopefully this is the same process as the old BHO site for photos. Here are the parts still mounted tightly on the split cardboard tube.

Re: I Painted My PVC Low D Whistle

Lots of good information here. Some a bit scary. I will do some playing after paint hardens well. For now I will leave mouthpiece unpainted. I will hope I don't have to tweek it, but now I know where to look for problems. I better get my files and sandpaper ready for the holes and window. I will rep...

I Painted My PVC Low D Whistle

On advice learned here, I bought a spray can of Krylon Fusion-Satin Black, for plastices. A helpful hint: I took a cardboard tube out of a near empty roll of gift wrap paper and split it completely down the length one cut. I compressed the cardboard tube enough to slide onto it my three pieces: the ...

Re: Help-My "B" Is Sharp

Building these was kind of my way of learning aobut these beasts, and what makes them "tick." Pletny of good wisdom and experience you folks have given me. Important thing, is now when I am ready to buy one made by a pro maker I understand a lot of the stuff, and I can better buy to suite ...

Help-My "B" Is Sharp

I built a guido's pvc Low D pipe and used our hole calculator to place and size holes for this 6-hole low D whistle. It sounds pretty good starting with the low octive D and acsending up the scale until I play the B-note (or the first 5 holes open, only the 6th hole closed). I have checked my air vo...

Hole Calculator Location

First, I admit I am a banjo player, so all posts I make should be with that in mind, though I presently do have all of my teeth.
However, I can locate your great hole calculator through google, but can't locate it directly on this site?
Thanks, Brad

Re: Newbie-Needs Recommendation for a Low D as a gift

So, here is what I did. When I dove in to the world of banjos, I decided to build one first. After a couple of months of researching banjos: what kind, what maker, how much money, I just built one. Then I "Got It". After that I could see what all of the fuss is about, and why custom built ...

Re: We don't do this enough. Thanks to all the "makers" on C&F

Though A Newbie on this site, I am an old timer on a banjo site, and I have always been grateful and felt previledged to read posts and participate in discussions with the builders and makers. Through their pariticipation it is my humble opinion that they have earned and deserve the benefit to show ...

Re: Newbie-Needs Recommendation for a Low D as a gift

You all have given me many whistles to consider and explanations why. That has provided much to consider when reviewing the information and availability of the variety of Low D whistles. And, in this quest I have learned much more about all whistles. I even learned of such a critter as the Low D har...

Re: Newbie-Needs Recommendation for a Low D as a gift

"If you sort of love your wife then stick to your price range, if you ...really... love here buy her a Goldie or MK" Well, I few years back when I indicated my desire to switch from guitar to clawhammer banjo, she went out and bought me a 40.00 banjo at a garage sale. So.... Anyway, I am e...

Newbie-Needs Recommendation for a Low D as a gift

My wife grew up playing a classic keyed flute in school band. In past amatuer jamming she used to dabble with a set of penny whistles I bought her. She also dabbled a bit on a wood keyless flute and an old wood flute with a few open holes and a few keys. Now, I would like to introduce her to playing...
