Re: 2020 Tin Whistle Enthusiasts Q & A

Beautifully stated. But now you've done it. You've made everyone who has never played in a session want to join one, so they can experience that grand feeling at least once in their lifetimes. This is why I love playing duets, trios, sonatas and so on. Playing by yourself is very rewarding, and it ...

That's intriguing. I'm sure you know the wonderful ocarina scene in Bertolucci's Novecento.

Re: McManus vs. Bleazy High D and C?

Well it was a long time ago. I may be off about the specifics, but I remember tuning was an issue with them. I was buying a lot of whistles and recorders in those days and for some reason Bleazey's instruments fascinated me. I also had a Bleazey session recorder which had substandard tuning. I sold ...

Re: McManus vs. Bleazy High D and C?

Herro! I haven't posted on this forum for probably ten years... anyway, to the point: I had a couple of Bleazey whistles in the old days and they are decently made, nice wood and good strong tone with not too much breath in it, but they always had tuning issues. As I recall the octaves were a bit sh...

Re: Our instruments are endangered !!

...While I'd love to think that we can change our behavior enough to not wreck the place, the simple fact is there are too many of us. Depopulating would solve (or drastically reduce) pretty much every environmental problem we're facing. It's difficult to get people on board with the idea, unfortun...

Re: Tips on playing wooden whistles

I think the problem with whistle headjoints is that the block and windway are not generally made entirely of wood even if the barrel of the whistle is. The nice thing about wood is that it retains a very slight surface film of moisture which conveys any further condensation out of the windway, so af...

Not him, just hate the overcooked reverb. It's like soft focus in movies.

FS kpro custom low d

Hi. Hope I'm not breaking the rules. Anyway, I have a KPro custom (brass barrel) low D for sale, 240 euro. Shipping worldwide would be 20 euro, 15 euro within the EU I'd say. It's a really wonderful whistle with a strong, flutelike tone and very smooth transition between the octaves. Lovely - and ve...

Re: FS: KPro low D brass barrel

The Rose is gone - alas! But a happy alas!

I see that the standard Kpro's go for something like £240 now? Amazing. Grab this custom while you can - it's a really magical whistle. Date of manufacture 110610.

FS: KPro low D brass barrel SOLD

Haven't checked in here for absolutely ages, hope everyone is fine and well ;-) So, I have these two whistles which have just been sitting in a drawer unplayed for the last few years, and I reckon it's time to pass them on. I hung on to them all this time because they're beautiful instruments, but t...

Re: How do you learn a new tune?

The emergence of written language or musical notation are cultural processes, not evolutionary developments due to the selection of mutated genetic replicators by environmental forces. Pre-literate man was evolutionarily no different from us. I know because I live next door to one.
