In 1183 the Welsh historian, Giraldus Cambrensis, visited Ireland for two years and wrote his book Topographica Hibernaie . He scathingly described the 'barbarians' he encountered there, criticizing their apparent lack of industry, disinterest in urban life, and love of liberty and leisure. Despite...

One time I was talking to someone about what kind of metronome they should buy, and they said they need it for playing Chopin (we were talking about piano). I was like "Oh, my goodness! What in the world?, you don't play Chopin with a metronome" and they were like "right, but you shou...

Re: So, why are you downloading my tunes?

From an internet point of view "downloading" and "listening" are the same thing.

It doesn't have to be hot enough to melt into a puddle, just enough to soften and distort a little. Which is still pretty hot though.

I've carried on a plastic M&E (with a tuning slide) and security (Oakland and Midway) didn't blink an eye.

Re: Physics for Hall flute owners

Withak, I think you will find that open holes cause antinodes, not nodes - as you rightly say, the areas of least density or pressure..... True, I'm used to thinking of waves in solids where you can have tension. :) In air you control where the minimum point on the wave is, not where the zero is.

The node is where the sine wave is zero, i.e. where the squiggly line on an oscilloscope crosses from positive to negative or vise versa. For wind instruments, an open hole makes a node by forcing the air pressure inside the tube at that point to be close to zero (relative to the pressure outside th...

I seem to recall a minor credit to that effect on the first Solas album.
In an Ed Reavy tunebook the introduction (I think that's where I remember reading it) mentions him playing the pipes at Reavy's funeral.

Hi Withak, Nice link, but is there a way of getting DownThemAll to recurse into a set of links to find the individual mp3 files? I.e. how to download this particular set of MP3s in a lazy fashion? I don't think so. Wget can do that though. :) Just don't ask me how because I can't remember how all t...

Is there a way of downloading all the MP3s in one batch without having to click on them singly? I've noticed trying to buy the CDs sends you off to a US web site and I'd rather not go through the hassles of customs etc either. And paying for the DRM version seems a bit strange if the files are avai...

What an ignorant opinion you have. I can easily hear the definition of a 96kbps OGG file over the same music encoded in even 160kbps mp3.
160 kbps mp3 is so 1997.
