Re: Larsen - Bergin comparison?
This may be a stupid question, but is Ms. Bergin's website the only place to order the books? Is there an on-line site in the US for ordering?
Thanks

Re: Cracked Fipple issues on Freeman whistles
I recently purchased a Bluebird from The Whistle Shop and the fipple was cracked in the front. I sent it back and received another one. There was a smaller crack in the front but not too significant, so I kept the whistle and used electrical tape in hopes of preventing the crack from getting bigger....

Re: OAIM
I second Maki's suggestion. There are three (not counting the beginner lessons) free whistle lessions with OAIM. I have finished The Baltimore Salute and am working on New Broom. I can't compare OAIM to Blayne's lessons, but as a beginner of two years, I really like learning the tunes phrase by phra...

Re: Favorite Whistles
I agree with Thomaston. I love my Mellow Dog C. I play this more than the Mellow Dog D. Lately, I play the Mellow Dog C more than any other whistle. For a D whistle, I prefer my Thornton D and Dixon Trad. Lately, I've revisited my Generation D and really like it.

Re: Playing the 2nd Octave on the Tin Whistle help?
Some whistles may be more foregiving than others, but it is the whistler more than it is the whistle. Patience and practice will alleviate the issues you are having. I've only been playing the whistle for 2 years, but my playing has improved and so will your playing. Everytime I read a thread like t...

Re: Practice time?
I'm certainly no expert, but I am satisfied with my progress of late. When I first started playing, I tried to learn ornamentation too soon at the expense of rhythm. I was also impatient with the tempo. Be patient. Slow the tune down and concentrate on rhythm. I like to memorize the tune and work on...

Re: Just ordered my first whistle a Freeman Bluebird!
Just before Mr. Freeman announced the Bluebird, I was convinced that I could control WHOAD. I've been playing the whistle for almost two years and only have 6 D whistles and one C. I only play four of the whistles -- the Mellow Dog D/C, the Dixon Trad and the Thornton D (which is a very nice whistle...

Re: Thoughts on WHOAD
Just chiming in on this thread. My WHOAD is not nearly as severe as some of you, but I have found a temporary cure. I've been playing my D whistles better, so I am not itching to buy another one just yet. I attribute this improvement to practice and to my Thornton whistle. The three whistles I play ...

Re: Which tin whistle should i get?
This really isn't a response to "Which tin whistle should i get?" but I think it has some bearing on some of the discussions in this thread. Please bear in mind, though, that I have only been playing for less than two years. I'm amazed, sometimes, at reading about the quantity of whistles ...

Re: What is the best learning material for self taught
Dagda, I have used several of the cites from Maki's list and found them to be quite useful. Brother Steve's I started with and used it extensively in the beginning. I found Tradlessons and Father Dunns' cites to be very good and both helped me to learn tunes by ear (with some visual aid). I now pref...

Re: First forum... First whistle... First timer... Uber- newbe.
Welcome. I'm a newbie to this site, too, and have been playing the whistle for just over a year. Learning by ear is not as difficult as you may imagine, and it is very rewarding and satisfying. As has been mentioned before in posts and articles, one advantage of aural learning is the ease of memoriz...

Re: Good Whistles
New member here. This is my first post after lurking for several months. I've been playing the whistle for about a year and have been frustrated with the Feadog Pro D (nickel), although I like the tone compared to the Gen D (brass). After reading many whistle discussions and recommendations from thi...
