the GHB culture fiercely defends the tradition, how it's always been done and played. Ahh...but competition piping is not 'how it's always been done and played'...unlike many Uilleann pipers on this forum who have come from a GHB Competition background, I have done the opposite and after 25+ years ...

To add on to Jem's reply... Don't be so sure the crack doesn't have any effect at all on the flute. The first winter I had my Morvan flute, the lined headjoint developed a hairline crack. All he's saying is that you can't go directly from D to F natural without an E sounding briefly in between. By the nature of the key action coupled with the fingering technique on the chanter, you can't really play keyed notes staccato all that well. Well, I suppose you could try, but that's not rea...

I have the same problem with mine. My current chanter was apparently the first 4-keyed chanter that particular maker had made, and I think partly to make room for the Bb key, he bent the touch of the F nat key in a funny way so that it was juuuust out of comfortable reach. I can usually reach it OK ...

Hi, folks! Thanks for taking the time to look. I have for sale a concert pitch D chanter by Cillian Ó Briain made from boxwood with brass mounts and a post-mounted C natural key. I bought this chanter as part of the first practice set that I got from Cillian when I was living in Dingle back in 2000....
