Re: British-Irish dialect Quiz

"Not from around here" which is accurate. I formed my speech habits in Michigan.

The closest they could place me was Galway or Killarney in Ireland, with Birmingham, England as an alternate.

I have Irish ancestors, but they were from Down and Longford, not way out west.

Re: Rhymes with Orange-O

I first picked up the idea of "the key of Q" from a bandmate long ago; he used it mainly in reference to that set of keys which are outside the common norms of Trad (C#m, for example), but also to indicate any unspecified key in the hypothetical. I think if you tried to tune a guitar stri...

Re: OAIM troubles?

I had this problem with OAIM for a while, i.e. after a few minutes the site would log me out indiscriminately. In case anyone is still having the same issue I sorted it out by changing the web browser I use to log into the OAIM site. I use an iPad and had been logging in with Safari. I now log in v...

OAIM troubles?

Is anyone else having trouble staying logged in to OAIM? When I log in and then try to navigate around the site, I'm soon (sometimes immediately) thrown back to the login screen, having been logged out. There is no error message. I've emailed them and done what they suggested - clear the cache and c...

Re: Is this a Dixon?

That looks like no Dixon I've ever seen. The tuning slide makes me think of a higher-end whistle, with the whistle either being delrin or wood. I thought it looked a bit like this one: http://tradtime.ie/product/tony-dixon-dx005-d-tuneable-brass-slide-polymer-high-whistle/ Still just a guess on my ...

1973. Adoption of the designated-hitter rule. It's been downhill from there.

Re: Irish ukulele... does it work?

I've seen Gerry O'Beirne playing ukulele, and I don't know how he fits his thick fingers into that narrow fretboard. I've seen it from the front row and I still don't know how he does it.

Harmonica - bending???(!!!)

OK, harmonica experts. How do I do this? Bending. I've read instructions from books. I've watched internet videos. I've contorted my mouth into all sorts of strange positions, apparently following instructions, but the notes won't bend. I even tried an electronic tuner to see if maybe the notes were...

And I guess I had a good ear for language, because it always sounded a bit substandard to me, even though I used it.
