Re: Leaky bag!
The seller refunded the cost of the bag replacement, and the bag is on its way to Bennett Pipebags in Scotland, thanks to Iain's recommendation!

Re: Leaky bag!
Thank you again - you've been extremely helpful! I think I'd rather have leather than anything else, too.

Re: What instrument is this?
Traditional foot pedal harmoniums (or reed organs) are rather unpopular and therefore easy to acquire, if you're interested and have the space. I was given a beautiful old Estey Reed Organ by an acquaintance who'd also got it as a freebie. It's fun, and you get a workout while you play... In the US,...

Re: Leaky bag!
Thank you for your suggestions, Iain - I'll follow that up! I've not been playing pipes very long and have no knowledge of bag types, other than that the one that's on there now is rather ugly. My bigpipes are Jon Swayne student pipes, with a rather handsome leather bag. Could you explain why you do...

Leaky bag!
I've just bought a set of beautiful Dave Shaw smallpipes on ebay, 25-30 years old and on delivery found that they are not properly playable. The drones sound just fine but the rubber coating around the chanter stock has deteriorated, letting all the air escape before it hits the chanter reed (see ph...

Re: Where do I find a hard case for my pipes?
(Late) Update: I got really lucky - someone offered a hard tenor sax case on Freecycle, and we customised the inside with polystyrene and velvet. Well, when I say 'we' customised it: the husband did all the work. I provided the velvet.

FS: African Blackwood flute by Dave Williams, keyless D SOLD
I'm selling my Dave Williams keyless D flute, African blackwood. It's in perfect condition, lovely tone but I never learned to play it properly, hence can't provide sound samples... £550 incl mainland UK p&p Please PM me for any questions, or for P&P to non-UK destinations. http://i117.photo...

Where do I find a hard case for my pipes?
I got a set of Jon Swayne student pipes in G for Christmas, and expect to acquire at least one more set (D) in the future. Can you recommend a good place to buy a hard case that will be suitable for a varying number of pipes? I've not found anything sensibly priced so far, and am currently using a l...

Getting a set of student pipes - advice on learning to play?
Hi all - I'm getting my first set of pipes for Christmas, a Jon Swayne student set in G. Then I'll have to learn how to play them... I've been playing a variety of whistles for a few years, which I hope will help. I'd welcome your advice on how to get started, mistakes to avoid & pointers to lea...

Re: Advice on getting a Shawm or Rauschpfeife or similar, please
Is that the same thing as a Dulcian? I saw several of those, and he played one for us. Beautiful to look at & listen to! I didn't try it, but we may well see more of Eric - husband is going back to learn how to make shawms etc.

Re: Advice on getting a Shawm or Rauschpfeife or similar, please
Update: yesterday, we had lunch with Eric Moulder & his wife, and a visit to his workshop. He is a lovely man, very generous, and I now completely understand why he inspired a passion for woodwork in my husband all those years ago. Eric let me try out a couple of his instruments and gave us lots...
