Re: FS: Aulos AF-2 Matte Black A440 Traverso Baroque Flute SOLD
I was asked a few questions on this flute so I figured I would include the answers on here as well: 1) What is the center to center spacing of L2 to L3? What is the diameter of L3? 2) Where is the scuff on the headjoint? 3) It looks like the embouchure is made of a different material, is this right?...

FS: Aulos AF-2 Matte Black A440 Traverso Baroque Flute SOLD
Hello everyone! It has finally come time to say goodbye to this beauty which I have enjoyed for quite some time. I have been fighting debilitating arthritis for years now and it is finally getting the upper hand over me. Up for sale is an Aulos Grenser AF-2 Black Matte A440 Traverso in superb as-new...

Re: Anyone heard of "Little Wood Winds"
I've bought from this maker, great guy! He makes fifes in various exotic woods and pitches. He doesn't tune to 12TET or 440 though and doesn't use a cork stoppered design so you can't change octave width. They really are fifes in that the first octave isn't intended for much use and they require a l...

Re: Rudall, Rose, Carte & Co. piccolo on eBay
Well, we play them of course! If you think simple system Piccs are loud you should hear a Böhm picc played forte. Seriously it feels like a drill bit going into your eyes from the inside of your head drilling outwards. In all seriousness, they're great for playing outdoors with earplugs in (or at le...

Re: Flute swabbing?
I always swab out my flutes but this 19th century german flute is a pain to do! The bore gets so small at the foot end due to the B foot that my 5/16" rod won't go through it, even with no cloth at all! So I have to confess I have just been shaking out the one piece lower-body/foot section. I a...

Re: New user, old flute
The missing Eb key will probably be more expensive to have replaced than to have the tennon fixed.

Re: Posting clips
Ah, thank you very much, Akiba! All that info and insight is very much appreciated and will be taken to heart! I knew that longer notes were good to break up for a breath or rhythmic variation, but didn't know rolls was implied. In fact that is part of why part 3 was initially very hard for me to pl...

I took a tune from Arbo, but don't compare me to him, haha. I'm no match for his fluting. http://www.box.net/shared/h8na5f43lu Played on my "Frankenflute" (see signature). Would love to hear any comments and criticisms. For reference I've been playing for about 9 months now, with my main f...

Re: Flute makers rejoice as the price of silver crashes!
I had always assumed Casey buys from an industrial supplier by the terms he uses (sheet, tube, rod, etc). I'm curious what his price compared to spot are as well. Where I buy; only bars and rounds are available, and you typically pay Spot + $1.30/oz + 3% + a fixed rate shipping, usually $12 for anyt...

Re: Flute makers rejoice as the price of silver crashes!
Well said, Benhall.1. I too have heard that this recent correction came about suspiciously. There was always talk that the rise was manipulated as well, but now with a drop of over $10 in a few days, it's really buzzing around. As an investor I'm hoping silver rises very high again, $50+/oz is good ...

Re: what are the differences between a flute and an irish flute?
Having a Traverso makes me truly admire how skilled such musicians must be, because for example in that video, his intonation is wonderful. My intonation (at least on traverso), I assure you, is most certainly not "wonderful" unless followed by the term "pathetic". Wonderful vide...

Re: First Flute
Keep in mind Alto recorders are in F, so the fingerings are similar to a G flute/whistle as the OP had mentioned. There are alto G recorders as well but they are rarer. In this situation though XXX XXX is G on both instruments. It does differ in some of the upper notes though because of no thumb hol...

Re: Flute Photos!!! Come post your flute pictures :)
Surprisingly well! It isn't a very loud flute but it has a great tone, quick response, and is lovely to play. I only have two complaints: 1) key placements Eb key is too far away (too close to the wrist) and the C/C# keys are too close to the R3 hole. Bb lever touch sometimes get hit by R1 accidenta...
