Crickett, my M&E had "M & E / Rudall & Rose" on its end cap, that's a sure indicator though there may be R&R model flutes without this inscription.

AFAIK iCloud backs up less things (can't find which at the moment), and the data goes through the Internet not just your USB or Wi-Fi. That's the current deviation from the 'it just works' mantra.

There are now no DRMs (nasty restrictions) on iTunes Store songs. Labels (the nasty guys) got variable pricing for that.
Just make sure your PCs or players understand the AAC format (*.m4a).
