Re: Garvie Low D whistle
Hi all You have asked some very challenging questions of a whistle novice (Going into my third year). The slide is very short 12mm. Hence, the reason why the slide needs to be push all the way in to tune to 440, tunes well to 441 with the slide pulled out by 6mm. I have never thought of pulling the ...

Re: Garvie Low D whistle
Hi MTB I am still coming to terms with the complexity of the Garvie. I have put it aside for some time and have only recently (last 2 weeks) come back to it. It would be interesting to hear Brian's first impressions. A few comments on how the whistle responds to my inexperience hands. The whistle is...

Re: 'octave-to-octave' intonation on the low D
Hi again ChasR The model in the picture looks like a DX102. I have not heard any adverse comments regarding these. However I did have a late model DX003 that was flat on all notes and no matter how I adjusted the breath the whistle was just flat. I contacted Tony Dixon Music (http://www.tonydixonmus...

Re: 'octave-to-octave' intonation on the low D
Hi CHasR You don't tell us what model Dixon you have. I only have 2 Dixon low D's (The old DX003 and the newer TB003). These have been tweaked to be more air efficient and slightly increase the volumn. I have no problems with these whistles regarding tuning into the 2nd octave although breath contro...

Re: [Q] Caring for wooden fipples
Hi Alex Welcome to the forum. No doubt there will be several replies to your question. I have a Shaw F and it's a cracker. Every few months using a peice of card I wipe the fipple with grape seed oil. I have had no problem with the whistle since doing this. Ian. By the way my family comes from Frome.

Re: Whistle practice tonight - hair raising stuff
Very few times it happens.
The strings of my wife's harp vibrate in accord with the whistle and the whole room appears to be one with what is happening. If only this would happen during a session.
Back to practice.

Re: Bracker Whistle Tour 2013
Come on you U.K. low whistlelers? How can you not want the opportunity to try a different whistle? I hope that there are enough C & F'ers that will warrant Hans to let a tour occur. I trust this will happen as I am just beginning to come to terms with the music that can be made on these instrume...

Shaw Low F
How many C & F'ers own a Shaw Low F? How do you find the air requiresment, tone and volumn? I got mine last Tuesday fron Hobgoblin in Bristol, nice people. Been practising every day and find the botton F hole a little awkward. I have several low D's and apart from the Kerry Songbird on which I f...

Re: Why do whistles sound different at night?
Depends on the amount of Red, White, Amber, Gold or Black nectar that one has been forced to drink at the end of the day taht (that) makesss the differensssce.

Posting Pictures
Hi all
I would like to post some pictures of my Garvie Low D and the Leather Case that I had made for it.
As a computer illiterate I would be grateful if someone could explain in the simplest terms how to do this. I tried the 'Search' function but it was of little use.
Many thanks.
